The origin of @iraknyc on the streets of NYC ๐ŸšŠ๐Ÿ—ฝ @kunleirak & @waaakone first met by seeing each other writing graffiti, just two kids who instantly knew they were speaking the same language. Wak came up with the name IRAK & it caught on with Kunle too. Soon after, Kunleโ€™s flipping through a magazine and read something that says โ€œEarshot,โ€ except he read it as โ€œEarsnotโ€. The rest is history!!! Link up topโ€ฆall ears & listen to the pod. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿฆ  Roxyโ€™s Tales Podcast Available on Spotify, Apple & YouTube ๐Ÿ”— โฌ†๏ธ #RoxysTales #KunleMartins #IRAK #Earsnot

When I left my full time rooting at El Puente in 2017 Frances came to me in my last week and said that Luis wanted to see me. At that point his illness made it difficult for him to come to our community home that they built with our circles of comrades at 211 South 4th St., and so I headed to their family home down the street and sat with him at the kitchen table I had been welcomed to sit at many moments before. He said โ€œI heard youโ€™re leaving us.โ€ After almost 7 years of committing to building an aligned vision with them, I had chosen to leave El Puente and pursue a vision of creating through my Pilipin@/x decolonization cultural lens. I had grounded in my resolve to leave and still committed to support EP with the Sacred work of our Global Justice Institute, training our staff and growing our network so Iโ€™ve never fully left. But centralizing my energy, my creativity, my vision and my ability to organize and move at El Puente took a pause so I could clarify even more the work of healing and understanding what it meant to lead in liberation. As I sat with him he held me with grace and loving honor and said to me โ€œI want you to know you are a part of our Legacy and whenever you are ready to come back the doors will be open and you will always be welcomed home. El Puente is a part of your Legacy and you are a part of El Puenteโ€™s Legacy.โ€ I carried this truth with me in my walk, so everyone has always know that for me, El Puente is part of who I am. When I came back full time in 2022 I had no idea what my return would be faced with, transition, challenge, heartache and also the profound truth that through it all Beloved Community would be what would lead us forward. We are leaving the blue doors that I always imagined would be open for me when I think of Luisโ€™s words. I have so much to share in this moment of transition and I pray that our collective community lineage of artists, organizers, dreamers and creators of a liberated and loving world will join us as we gather to honor our Sacred 211-a convener of powerful movement makers, sanctuary of free spirits, portal to channel creative source, and home of the people for almost 45 years-โ€œVen a Casaโ€ famโœŠ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿคฒ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿซ€
