So, on Saturday 17th January I played my last gig as an official Menstrual Cramps member. It’s taken me a bit of time to figure out what to say. I’ve had the best time playing with them, and I want to pay tribute to my bandmates as I say goodbye.

What AJ and Emilia do as the core of the band is unbelievable. Every time AJ started soundchecking her kit I would stop what I was doing and just go “Fuck yes!” because it sounded so great. It doesn’t matter if she’s sick, if the monitors suck, if the snare stand is
broken, AJ is always fire at a show. The Menstrual Cramps never had an off show in the entire time I played with them, and that’s because AJ always brings it.

Anyone who’s seen the band knows what a force Emilia is. People who can front a band and hold an audience like that are rare, and Emilia connects with their audience better than anyone I’ve ever worked with. But Emilia is maybe even more amazing as a community organiser and campaigner. I was so impressed every time I heard them talk about activism, about boycotts and strategy. They’re so knowledgable and smart. If you get a chance to hear them talk about Bands Boycott Barclays, do it. They are the antidote to political apathy, because they know that change is possible and they will tell you how. There’s a reason the Menstrual Cramps are so successful with no external funding or support, and it’s that Emilia
makes stuff happen.

Abi was the bassist for my first five months with the band, and Oana did most of the gigs after that. They’re both drummers who learned bass from scratch to play with the band, and they both did awesome jobs. I couldn’t believe how quickly Oana got up to speed to be ready to gig with the band, and she killed it from the start.

I’ve had unbelievable opportunities this year, playing in Rome, Belgium, at Alexandra Palace and at a bunch of awesome UK festivals. I’m sure you’ll see me on stage with the Menstrual Cramps again, filling in when they need a dep. Until then, so much love to all the fans who saw us live in 2025. You were incredible to
play for and I appreciate everyone that came to a show.

Love you all,

Jenna
