"There's always gonna be setbacks along the road… so the mental side, to be able to pick yourself up and build resilience, is extremely important."

Injury, selection, delisting. Every footballer faces setbacks. What matters is having the support to work through them. Thanks to @jacob_blight and @subiacolions for sharing his story this Mental Health Month.

Congratulations to our 14’s & 15’s @waflofficial representatives for @subiacolions & @eastperthfc. The boys competed in the October holidays against other WAFL Clubs and the South West.

We look forward to following their talent pathways in the coming years! 🦁👑

Didn’t get much time to photograph, was too busy crying, but the AFL Open is probably going to be the best experience I’ll ever have 🖤💛

So proud of the talent and people that come out of our state, truly inspirational

“It’s not the result we wanted” was what our APM Men’s Inclusion and Wheelchair teams heard towards the end of the AFL Open. But we also could not stop hearing and talking and thinking about the raw determination and drive they had to cross that finish line with pride, no matter the place. They really are winners.

We are so incredibly proud of the tenacity and force all the players put into their games, and it made the 2026 WA teams hard to ignore, never ending efforts, and continuous determination.

We’re so incredibly proud of our APM Women’s inclusion team taking the first ever premiership home, but we can’t help but feel like the other teams left their mark in a way that will never be forgotten.

Thank you to the players, support staff, coaches, family and friends, who showed up everyday with pride to represent their state, and get the job done; it’s a journey you can’t make on your own.

Thank you to our naming partner APM, who’s funding makes this trip possible for our players, and our sponsors, Major Motors, Northern Star, and everyone who contributes to the WA All Abilities Association, it’s because of you that we can create this experience. And to AFL Play, the space you make for inclusion footy brings people together from all over the country in a way that extends beyond the game.

We are so lucky to have the community we do, and it’s the people in it that make it what it is. Moving is the only way to describe the support between players, teams, and everyone involved; it will be something each and every person who experienced it remembers. From the cheer squad, to running out on the field to celebrate the women’s premiership, to dinners together, to long days, nerves, and getting around each other after a loss, that’s the WA spirit.

How good is footy?

After a dislocated finger in yesterdays game, Reece picked up the coaching hat. And we have to say, it fits him quite well 💛🖤

AFL state combine WA results

A combine record was smashed while players displayed their athletic prowess at the AFL state combine over the weekend.

East Fremantle and Fremantle next get academy prospect Fin Yeo produced the highlight of the day, smashing the agility test with 7.533 seconds beating fellow West Aussie Darcy Jones’ record from 2022.

Yeo, East Perth’s Garrison Kenh and Jake Soutar and Perth product Kane Johnston were standouts finishing in the top 3 in multiple tests.

At the AFL national combine Cam Maynard finished 2nd in the 20m sprint with 2.898 seconds, while Leo Steed finished in the top 10 in the agility test (8.068 seconds) and 6th in the 2km time trial (6:09 minutes) with George Gale 8th (6:12 minutes).
