Grateful to the @wimberleylionsclub for their recent grant to @wagrescue and for the long standing partnership between our two organizations.

We appreciate the Wimberley Lions Club’s continued support of WAG Rescue’s work to provide refuge, care, and loving paths to forever homes for dogs in need and local adoption services to our dog-loving community.

I’ve spent 30+ years working for and with nonprofit organizations in several states and large urban areas, and the community generosity, civic mindedness, and nonprofit cooperation and collaboration in this small corner of the Texas Hill Country is second to none. 🐶❤️

Some days, you’re reminded that the best part of the work isn’t just what you do—it’s who you get to do it with.

Today at our monthly WAG Day event with KWVH @wimberley_valley_radio and Brookshire Brothers, I was reminded again how special the Wimberley community is. Local nonprofit organizations and local businesses coming together, sharing connections and helping one another do a little more good.

Since stepping into my Executive Director role @wagrescue, I’ve come to appreciate how interconnected our work is with the community around us. Rescue may be about the dogs, but at its heart, it’s also about people, connection and community.

Special thanks to WAG Board member and longtime volunteer Jana, the one and only Tanya Tyler with KWVH Radio, and Rusty with Brookshire Brothers for bringing this partnership to life each month.

Feeling especially grateful today to be part of this little corner of Texas—and to be surrounded by people who believe that when we show up for each other, good things happen. 🐾❤️

We love & appreciate our local shelter staff so much. Nobody loves the animals more, spending every day with them, bonding with & loving them like their own. They work tirelessly taking care of all the animals irresponsible owners chose not to; & carrying the weight of what that sometimes looks like. Unfortunately the shelter is out of space again. Dogs are pouring in everyday. On this day four years ago, I hadn't left the house in a while, because walking down the street without pushing Gus was too hard. We wouldn't even consider getting another dog. A little over a week later the universe knew that I wasn't ever going to leave the house again so she sent me a little blonde all-American dog who also was fine with never leaving the house. And we were grateful to be called to be dog parents again. A couple of months later the universe said Ok, now you need to go outside again so here is a dog with four legs that kind of looks like him. And somehow we ended up with a set of twins that are filling all the holes that heartbreak made. Four years of Romy and Dally and I hope we have many, many, many, many more.

One year ago today we made an impulsive decision to add sweet Lottie to our family after meeting her at a neighborhood adoption event. It’s been the best decision ever! She fills our lives with extra love & laughter and we adore her. Happy Gotcha Day, Lottie!!!! 💕💕💕 Thank you @wagrescue for doing what you do to find loving homes for so many pups.

Sesame is one handsome fella with a signature furrowed brow that gives him a thoughtful, endearing expression. You’ll see this experience a lot because Sesame likes to keep an eye on his humans and makes great eye contact. He is also a really smart guy who enjoys learning new things and staying mentally engaged. He has a rugged muscular build like the athlete he is, but is happy to curl up for a nap after some exercise. He loves tug toys, a game of fetch, and belly rubs. He has a perfect sit and takes treats with a soft mouth. He also walks well on leash and would make a great walking buddy. Sesame would do best with an experienced dog owner and has all the makings of an affectionate and loyal companion. Whether you're looking for a buddy for outdoor adventures to join you at the local watering hole or a friend to share your downtime with, Sesame is eager to join you.

What would be the ideal home for this dog? A single dog home with an experienced dog owner. Sesame needs structure, boundaries, and physical and mental exercise. If he has this, I believe he would be an affectionate and loyal companion.

Anything else to add? I’ve known Sesame since he came to us - sadly, almost 2 years ago. He’s my favorite. He’s a smart dog who is stressed by his long stay. He throws things around in his kennel out of frustration. He’s a working dog with nothing to do. We try to give him extra attention and time out. He loves all our volunteers.

What a fun opportunity to chat about my role as WAG’s new Executive Director and to highlight the incredible dedication of our board, our volunteers, and our donors and supporters to giving dogs a second chance for love and a forever home.

Not gonna lie – I’m a little jealous that our Board VP, Jana (pictured here with me), gets to join the Wake Up Club each week to highlight WAG’s Dog of the Week. Your energy is contagious, Tanya – thanks again for having me on this morning!
