Grateful for a full day, Wake County! I cast my vote this morning, then joined the 2026 Candidates Forum hosted by PowerUpNC at Shaw University, and closed out the evening at the NAACP Wendell Wake County Branch Mary Perry Freedom Fund banquet in Wake Forest. Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and participants who made both events so meaningful.

And a special thank you to everyone who worked the polls today—you are the heart of this campaign. To every voter who has already cast a ballot, thank you—I am honored to have your support.

Early voting continues tomorrow, Sunday, from 1 to 6 p.m. See you out there!

Our Bike to School event started the process of getting a new bike rack at our school. Thank you to Dylan Mathews, a public health educator of @wakegov , for the free bike rack to further promote biking to school! It’s a great addition that will be used! 🚲🛴

From the courthouse to the courtroom. 🇲🇽⚖️

A new chapter for Mayra Nieves, Esq. celebrating the moment she officially stepped into her next role as an attorney. An honor to capture a milestone this meaningful.

Here’s to new beginnings, bigger opportunities, and everything ahead!

Bringing dreams into reality. 📸✨

A Wake County Sheriff's Deputy named Andrew Ramon Deras broke into a home in Raleigh, North Carolina.
He had no warrant, no invitation, no reason to be inside that house.
The family dog, Zelda, began to bark at the intruder.
Andrew Ramon Deras then shot his gun 4 times and killed Zelda.
This type of atrocity should have been met with an immediate firing and jail time.
The exact opposite happened.
The Wake County Sheriff, Willie Rowe, put Andrew Deras back on the job after 2 months PAID leave.
The Wake County District Attorney, Lorrin Freeman, made no comment.
Her successor, Wiley Nickel, made no comment and blocks those who demand accountability.
The North Carolina Attorney General, Jeff Jackson, also refused to condemn this murder.
The mayor of Raleigh, Janet Cowell? Complete silence.
Zero accountability. Zero compassion. Zero empathy.
How does this traumatized family ever find peace again? Their home is supposed to be a safe place that the government and Constitution protect.
Zelda is their family member and was brutally killed. Where is the justice?
Where is the outrage?
Why has North Carolina just moved on and pretended that everything is fine?
If it can happen to this family, it can happen to anyone.

🛶 Paddle Clean-Up Success on Falls Lake!

What a beautiful day on the water! 26 volunteers joined Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (MST) and Big Sweep to clear 795 lbs.of litter and debris from the shoreline near the Hwy 50 Trailheads. ☀️

Along the way, we hauled out some real surprises: a fire extinguisher, an ankle monitor, and a large plastic rat! 🐀 We also enjoyed plenty of wildlife, including turtles, frogs, and Great Blue Herons. 🐢🐸

Thank you to Parker-Lord for volunteering and bringing bagels for breakfast, to the NC State Park rangers and seasonals for their support, and to Friends of Soil and Water Conservation and Friends of the MST for lunch afterward.

To all our hardworking volunteers: thank you for your stewardship! 💚

🐉💚 It takes a community to Roll Into Kindness! 🚲🛴🚶

As our Douglas Dragons celebrate Raise Craze by completing Acts of Kindness for their friends, families and community, an incredible community has shown that same kindness right back to them. 💚

Tomorrow, during Douglas PTA’s Raise Craze campaign, our students and families will walk, bike and roll to school together for Roll Into Kindness—and so many people and organizations have stepped up to help make it safe, welcoming and FUN.

From route planning and safety support to helmets, bike checks, crossing guidance, equipment, volunteers, our kickoff location, family warm-up and community encouragement, every name on this graphic has helped bring this morning together.

We’re incredibly grateful to our community partners, Douglas staff and PTA, local leaders, volunteers, neighbors, and especially Ms. Teressa Gill, who helps keep our Dragons safe every school day. 💚

📅 Wednesday, October 7
⏰ Gather at 8:00 AM | Rollout at 8:30 AM
📍 Start at Lakemont or join at Compton & Latimer or Compton & Ortega
🚲 Walk, bike or scoot whatever portion works for your family!

Thank you for showing our Dragons what kindness, connection and community look like in action.

Tomorrow, we ROLL! 🐉💚🚲
