What makes someone a “proper” paddleboarder anyway?

Here’s my version: I live in London. I don’t have a car. My 14-foot board travels by bus, train, Tube, the occasional Uber and quite a lot of walking.

People often assume you need a car, a coast or a holiday to paddle. You really don’t. London has given me more than ten years of adventures on the water and that’s a big part of why I wrote Paddle London (Bloomsbury).
