Growing the Tree (Etz Chayim). For any of you who see this collage photo and are wondering, it is a reference and a tip of the hat to my ancestors. Over the years in between raising my own family and working and pursuing other interests from time to time I have dope into the deep my ancestry to find out who I am and where I come from. It has been full of surprises, disappointments, unexpected discoveries, and proud moments. I have learned about the people who made it possible for me to be alive. I found out that I have inherited a lot of my characteristics and trades from a number of them. I found out they played a major part in the birth of the United States of America, and they came from remarkable backgrounds. They practiced everything from farming, to skilled trades. They were teachers, planters, lawyers, airplane pilots, shop owners, judges, sailors, farmers, politicians, cattle drivers, soldiers, land speculators, carpenters, musicians, doctors, and officers of the law. Most of all I found out, they were brave, resilient, determined, educated, and most of all they were survivors. Their blood runs through my veins and their names run through my mind. Sometimes I wonder if I got my stubbornness from one person and my intelligence from another and my creativity from someone else. I have passed those jeans onto my children and I see myself and their mother in them as well. Families are not just for this lifetime and this world, they are forever. Without my family, I would have no anchor I would not know north from the south on the compass of my life. The reference to the tree at the beginning is the Hebrew for “tree of life “because that’s what family really is. The mothers are the heart and the fathers are the head. The children are the branches and our ancestors are the roots. The fruit produced by the tree are all of the accomplishments that we achieve in this life that plant the seeds for the next generation. #family #heritage #research #history

Thank you to everyone who helped NHS with shopping, packing, and delivering for Kare for Kids and the Place. We were able to give many kids a great Christmas and feed over 100 families.
