Here we are at November in flyers part 2!

1) Tues 11/10 7:00PM at The Perch: Birdbath Sessions Ep. 1: Morphology with Carlos Santiago, Asia Mieleszko, Salina Kuo & Pamela Fucello. BIRDBATH SESSIONS brings four artists from different corners of Philly’s musical ecosystem together to form a temporary ensemble. The format is simple: each artist brings music from their own world, and then the group uses those different musical languages as a starting point for collective composition. Works by Erin Gee, Claude Debussy, Georges Aperghis, Meredith Monk, Pauline Oliveros, as well as collectively composed pieces. Food & open jam to follow!

2) Sat 11/14 7:30PM at Living Signal:Okapi, Channel Marker & Chelsea Smarr. Okapi was born in Chicago in 2012 when Scott Gorski met Lindsey Miller, a classically trained cellist, who had departed from the stifling conservatory direction while Scott, a self-taught upright bassist and singer, was seeking new and inventive avenues outside of traditional music. Channel Marker are Shaina Kapeluck, Roger Martinez and Benjamin Schurr, members of Song People, Luna Honey and Interminables. Vocals, harmonium and contrabass. Songs about death, the sea, death at sea and talking animals. Chelsea Smarr is a harpist from deep within the dusty coal mining region of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, who whirls together an improvised cacophony of experimental compositions during her performances.

3) Tuesday 11/17 8PM at The Perch: Prasant Radhakrishnan. Prasant Radhakrishnan is a versatile saxophonist steeped in both South Indian Classical (Carnatic) and jazz disciplines. The unique vocal texture of his sound on saxophone, noted for its expressive complexity and rhythmic ingenuity, reflects Prasant’s continued study of tradition, constant innovation, and vast concert experience over the past 23 years. He is the foremost disciple of Carnatic saxophone pioneer Dr. Kadri Gopalnath, he will be accompanied by Swetha Narasimhan on violin and Vinay Mallikaarjun on mridangam,

Flyer 1 by Asia Mieleszko, 2 & 3 by Erik Ruin.

MAKE ART, NOT WAR. 🇺🇦🎬

An in-depth look at Oleksandr Dovzhenko’s life, work, and legacy—a chance to witness the brilliance of Ukrainian cinema and explore the films of one of its most influential visionaries.

So proud of @cinemanaif for bringing this together in collaboration with @razom.for.ukraine, @metrograph and @dovzhenko_center. A beautiful celebration of Ukrainian art, culture, and cinematic heritage. 💙💛

A transportation budget can find hundreds of millions for highway expansion, and somehow the smaller projects are where the money gets tight.

More often than not, expansion is assumed to be necessary, while smaller safety fixes and other worthwhile transportation projects have to prove why they deserve funding at all.

Learn about Global Voices 9/19 at @delightfactorynyc

The workshop takes place in two parts. In part one, @umerpiracha will lead us in his workshop “The Unheld Note”.

The Unheld Note is a participatory workshop using Sufi vocal practice, breath, silence, and deep listening to restore forms of attention that contemporary life steadily erodes. Moving between sound and stillness, participants explore what happens when we stop trying to interpret, optimize, or resolve experience- and instead become receptive to what can only be felt before it is named.

Following this 700 year-old tradition, we travel to the Ukraine, where @walking_singing will guide us through Ukrainian folk singing traditions.

Ever wondered how Ukrainian village polyphony works? In this workshop, we’ll learn traditional multipart songs and ritual songs while exploring the techniques that make these communal harmonies so distinctive.

@melaclossvoice will lead vocal warm-ups before each section. Sit on the floor with your shoes off in the beautiful Delight Factory and experience voice in ways both new and old.

Arrive by 4:30 to experience Sufi vocal music.
Arrive by 6 to experience Ukrainian vocal music.
Or stay for the whole journey! Drinks available for purchase.

Ticket link in bio. DM for discount code!
