Did you hear that Roc Paint Division earned not just one, but two nominations in the same category for @roccitymag ‘Best of Rochester’ for Best Mural or Public Art Exhibition?

“Take Care” is a two-part mural collaboratively designed and led by @francheskathesun and @jupiters_moon4 located at @lyellbranchlibrary and made possible in part through our partnerships with @walltherapyny and @nyscouncilonthearts which provided us the opportunity to complete one side with our season 11 cohort and then to bring back four alumni to work alongside our youth this summer to complete the other side in record time!

We are so incredibly proud of this team and the ways they added to the cultural fabric of the Lyell-Otis community. When we started this program nearly 12 years ago, we never imagined we would end up receiving this type of recognition, and we are overjoyed to see our group of young artists at the forefront of public art in Rochester! Show them some love by voting via the link in our bio (or bestof.roccitymag.com)

Congratulations to these rising stars, including Francheska Diaz, Callisto Daly, Marcus Austin, McKenzie Cutt, Lily Ni, Gennie Giles, Myles Petsche, Sophia Reiss, Angel Rios, Micheal Rakovan, Niptoun Howiada, Flor Ayala-Pound, Fatima Rezaie, and Batool Khazaal as well as the other artists nominated in this category!

Special thanks to BJ Scanlon and Dennis Williams of the Rochester Public Library System for continuing to provide canvases for our work.

This summer, Roc Paint took on its largest and most ambitious project to date at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park Ice Rink. Through its partnership with @walltherapyny, the program employed 6 alumni and 5 youth workers.

Our mural celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Rochester City Mark and the vast array of activities and events that take place there throughout the year. Local children are depicted interacting with nature, with the colors and imagery evoking feelings of summer on the left side, and winter on the right.

We were recently blown away that our mural was nominated for @roccitymag “Best of Rochester” for Best Mural or Public Art Exhibit through write-in nominations by members of the community! It’s an incredible honor to know that our youth cohort is making such an impact on the place we call home. Help us get to the winner’s circle by voting for us via the link in our bio (or bestof.roccitymag.com)

A huge thanks to our rockstar team of young artists including alumni Marcus Austin, Callisto Daly, Mya Fisher, Sodaba Khalil, Rain Lehner, Kaori-Mei Stephens, and our youth workers Gennie Giles, Niptoun Howiada, Sophia Reiss, Fatima Rezaie, and Leo Hogan-Roy.
