What does the customer expect from luxury now? Apparently, more than a product.

At the RLC Leadership Series in London, Helen Brocklebank of Walpole, Sebastian Picardo of Monica Vinader and Amal Benichou of Accenture reflected on what it takes to create and sustain desire today.

Their answers point to a broader shift in expectations. Creativity and quality remain essential, but so do originality, personalization and accessibility. Just as importantly, desire now depends on how every part of the business works together: from design and distribution to retail, service and aftersales.

Hear what they had to say.

Beyond an honour to be featured in the @walpole_uk Book of British Luxury 2026. The article Chain Reaction written by @kirstymcgregoredits is timely; “The future of our heritage brands depends on the preservation and renewal of the systems that allow craft not only to survive, but thrive.”
At HERD we are deeply integrated with our supply chain - we know it’s their success that underpins our own - an interdependent ecosystem - and we are only as good as our word and reputation. The proximity is one of the many things that makes Made in Britain so special, as well as being small-scale, exceptionally high quality and fairly paid. 🇬🇧

Recently, we gathered in the historic Pompadour Ballroom at @hotelcaferoyal (absolutely beautiful) to celebrate the launch of the Book of British Luxury 2026/2027, Walpole’s annual celebration of the people, brands and craftsmanship shaping British luxury today.
Under the venue’s glorious, gilded ceiling, guests enjoyed gin cocktails by @silentpooldistillers ,sparkling wine by @chapeldown and canapes.
The soundtrack to the night was provided by @alrmusic

I had a great time and met some lovely people.

The Burberry show is always my LFW highlight - as ever, I singularly failed to capture either the craftsmanship or playfulness of the collection but both were there in lorryloads (embroidered and embellished leather or silk coats, trenches and blousons were favourites with me, in some dreamy colours - duck egg blue and lavender for example. Last night I went to the new Burberry Trench exhibition at the V&A - archive exhibits dating from before the war stood up alongside the classic heritage trench made in Yorkshire today and I really enjoyed seeing runway pieces from the last 20 years. The Burberry trench is an icon for a reason in its classic iterations fashion-forward riffs alike. I also loved that seemingly the entire guest list at the V&A party and today’s show had turned up in Burberry. #britishluxury #burberry #burberryforward #lfw

Why Local Matters: Craftmanship, Community and British Design

Why does local matter?

What does it really mean to design and make locally and what can British craftsmanship bring to the future of interiors?

Join Walpole at The Sustainability Space at Decorex 2026 for a conversation exploring how local production, heritage skills and stronger supply chains can support communities, preserve traditional craftsmanship and create products built to last.

Bringing together perspectives from across British design and interiors, the discussion will explore how businesses can embrace local production, whether across an entire collection or through carefully selected products, and how provenance and craftsmanship can become part of a more thoughtful approach to design.

Hosted by Walpole.

What a lovely week in the world of Walpole: 1,2,3&4 on Monday we threw a huge party in the chic surroundings of Hotel Café Royal’s Pompadour room to celebrate the launch of the new book of British Luxury. Every year we invite a Walpole member to design the cover and Alexandra Llewellyn (pic 3) created a beautiful marquetry backgammon board which she then photographed for the cover – what way to showcase the exquisite craftsmanship and artistry at the heart of British Luxury. I caught up with Walpole‘s longtime design consultancy, Nous, who designed the book and Paragon who printed it, thank you too beautiful flowers From Wildabout and drinks from Chapel Down and Silent Pool and thanks to Kris Piotrowski for photography for all all book party pictures except the one of Silent Pool which I took. 5. Another annual fixture, our Brands of Tomorrow alumni reunion dinner with Mishcon De Reya at Berry Bros who not only do incredible wines but equally delicious food. 6 & 7: I interviewed Newby Teas global marketing director, Aneta Aslakhanova on the Luxury stage at London packaging week and went to see a few Walpole partners IDP and GF Smith. 8. Popped to Fortnum & Mason for a meeting late on Thursday afternoon with my Chair and swung by 45 Jermyn afterwards for a Negroni with one of our brands of tomorrow mentors. All the other photographs are of the Goodwood Revival. It’s hard to capture what a unique amazing event this is. It was wonderful to be there with walpole members Creed and The Macallan and to bump into both Smythson and Fortnums who were also guests of Goodwood. It’s not often I’m able to take a plus one and it was so lovely to hang out with my great friend Graham who was much more nattily dressed than me. I managed to update my usual revival look from the fifties to the 60s but was still inescapably channelling the spirit of the wife of a Tori party candidate for Chelsea and Kensington circa 1965 what can I say? It’s obviously my default vintage look #GoodwoodRevival #BookOfBritishLuxury #brandsoftomorrow

A rather special evening 🤍

This week we joined fellow @walpole_uk members at the @hotelcaferoyal on Regent Street to celebrate the launch of the Book of British Luxury 2026/2027. 📖

A wonderful gathering of some of Britain's finest luxury brands and makers, and we were proud to be among them as a Walpole member.

Thank you to everybody who made it an enjoyable event!
