Happy October everyone.

Slightly delayed sending this one out today due to a late-night Yankees playoff game obliterating all other priorities in my life. I am not here to wax on about baseball, but it does serve as a perennial marker for me as summer melts fully into fall. And what I am here to wax on about is the changing of the seasons and how to tune into that more deeply.

The core of this month’s mix is built around the great verses in Ecclesiastes 3: “For every thing there is a season, and a time for every matter under the heaven.”

With a slowing down of my musical output over the last month, I felt like I finally had time to listen to the music and the world around me. To let the creativity rise up and marinate. And that is where, one day while tuning into a Ram Dass lecture on the process of listening and tuning, the concept of listening amidst the changing of the seasons was delivered to me like a gift.

I listened to the lecture once and then again the next day, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. As the energy behind it gripped me tighter, I started building out this episode of Good Textures and followed my intuition to find a way to mix it in.

Both the message and the music are a proper reflection of exactly where my head is at. I am in a place where I am asking myself more intentionally: “What am I listening to? What am I hearing?” In small ways and big ways. Both in music and in life.

I want to put the intention out there that this show and this music can be a vehicle for you to listen to whatever it is you feel called to listen to more deeply as well.

We are so inundated with constant stimulus that it feels like a cleansing of the mind when I put this show together, and again when I listen back once complete. I hope that comes through for you too.

If you listen and something here resonates with you, shoot me a note. Until then, have fun listening and tuning.

It is very generous of our favorite music mag, Aquarium Drunkard to give so much virtual ink to the Across the Horizon music series. As we begin wrapping up Vol. 2 and preparing for Vol. 3, AD gives a great take on 10 songs in the series, including Cole Pulice, Dave Harrington, Natalia Beylis, Marisa Anderson, Luke Schneider, Walt McClements, Clarice Jensen, Julianna Barwick, William Tyler, Takeshi Nishimoto, Adjuster66, Six Missing and SUSS.

It’s an honor to put this series out, with the support of the label Northern Spy, the press, the fans, and most importantly the artists. And I can’t forget to mention the work of Chuck Johnson who has helped make everything sound so great, and Lisa Armstrong for her amazing art direction.

Find the full article at aquariumdrunkard.com and these tracks wherever you get your music.

sacred waters and arroyo willow worshippers! on the evening of the autumnal equinox we gather upon the banks of paayme paxaayt, our friend the la river, to sit with the sunset and inhabit the sonic worlds of @nicogeoris 🌊

nico is a dear & brilliant friend. his music lives deep within our hearts, and on the evening of the 22nd he’ll be channeling clouds, confluence, and waterways via wurlitzer, sampler, and synth to soundtrack this transition of seasons.

rsvp via our website for the pin drop, or if you’ve joined us on the la river in a previous flow of time then you know where the current leads.

this is a donation-based gathering, open to and for all. setting up on the river is a wild process & nico is joining us all the way from the high-desert scrubland home in the mojave, so please donate if you can and we’d love if a few friends would stay late to help us pack up.

pull up early to hang out, ride a bike, bird watch, read, visit the @lafbpark.diy, whatever fills your cup. bring a blanket, water, snacks, an extra layer, a pup, a friend, and anything you’d like to feel cozy.

most 📸s by @earth__poems & one from @benwilsonpictures from gatherings of olde with the river

see you soon 🐸

A pleasure to play @sound_and_gravity this past Friday in Jessica Risker's band. And as a 30-years-long fan of all things @korgofficial also great to see they are an official supporter of the fest. Also a plus when the sound engineer is envious that I have the Vox Continental 61. A prized possession and great compliment to the Minilogue. #korgandgravity

Walt McClements set was an incredible trance-enducing experience. If you've never heard an accordion become a cathedral pipe organ, you are missing out.
