Jazz is taking a different road. 🎷

Meet the inaugural 2026–2027 Jazz Road Rural Tours pilot cohort, 11 artists and ensembles whose music and meaningful connections to rural places are at the heart of a new approach to touring.

Rather than asking artists to arrive with a fully developed tour, Jazz Road Rural Tours starts with those existing connections. South Arts and Jazz Road will work alongside the artists to build routes, connect with presenters, and shape tours rooted entirely in rural communities.

The goal? Live jazz experiences that are meaningful not only for the artists taking the stage, but for the presenters and communities welcoming them.

Tonight, Josh Henderson celebrates his new record, Cosmic Lullaby, with an album release concert.

Partially recorded at @oursaviournyc, Josh and I recorded my early work, Chaconne, for violin and organ. Tonight’s concert includes his new chamber arrangement at @friendsandloversbk in Brooklyn, produced by @strauss_hauss_bk Works by Josh and @yeehawyaz are also on the menu.

I wrote this program note for the album liner notes.

I can’t be there tonight as I’m on the road with @noaeven.music, but I hope you’ll give the album a listen, go to the show, or buy Josh a beer next time you see him.
