We had the most unexpected surprise at the inauguration of Washington College President Bryan Matthews when we ran into Washington College graduate and former lacrosse player Tom Merritt - who happened to be carrying something that immediately caught our attention: an incredible hand-drawn map of Chestertown.

There was something so cool about seeing our little town this way. We’re so used to pulling up Google Maps that seeing Chestertown stripped down to black and white - every street, block and landmark carefully drawn by hand - made the town come alive in an entirely different way.

Of course, we immediately decided we needed one at MSAK!!!

Tom stopped in during Sunday brunch with Cole and Will to deliver a framed copy. All three played lacrosse at Washington College with Billy, Will interned with us two summers ago, and somehow these boys are now out in the world adulting!

The best part? Tom has more of his hand-drawn Chestertown maps available.

Whether you live here now, grew up here, went to Washington College, visit whenever you can, or simply fell in love with Chestertown somewhere along the way, we thought you might love having a piece of it, too.

📍 If you'd like one, reach out to Tom directly at tom_merritt143@yahoo.com

And next time you're in the Kitchen, take a look at ours - we absolutely love it!💗

🚨 BREAKING NEWS FROM THE SHORE

Chester Riverdogs Founder, General Manager, Captain & Attackman Keen Griffin suffered an ACL and meniscus tear during the Washington College Shoremen Alumni Game this past weekend.

Griffin is expected to undergo surgery this fall and has officially landed on the IR for the 2027 OC Lacrosse Classic.

@oclaxclassic sources have already begun speculating that Griffin could transition from the field to the sideline as Head Coach for the 2027 tournament.

Get well soon, Griff. The Dawgs need you.

I first want to thank God for blessing me with this opportunity. I also want to thank my family for supporting me throughout this process. I want to thank Coach Dico, Coach Miles, Coach Suthers, Coach Zinck, and all other coaches that have guided me in my journey. I could not have done this without you.

Lastly, I want to thank the coaches at Washington: Coach Nostrant, Coach Matthews, and Coach Gifford for giving me the opportunity to play at the collegiate level as a Shoremen!

Way to go, Jay!!! We are unbelievably proud of this young man on his commitment to Washington College. A two-way midfielder who is as tough as they come while also possessing a lot of skill and savvy. Also a guy who leads by example and has been a reliable option in big time moments. We are so excited for you to continue your playing journey, Jay. Lots of great times ahead in Chestertown! Congratulations!! @mccaa_jay @washcollmlax
