It’s a field watch with a Finnish twist! 🇫🇮 The @sufhelsinki 180 is a pretty basic watch with a contemporary look, well executed, with a compact (38.7mm in diameter), thin case (only 8.7mm tall), a polished convex bezel, stick hands, a railway minute track, and lovely Arabic numerals. But what drew me to this watch is the elephant in the room, that brilliantly bright, deep and glossy cranberry red dial. 🍒 The dial is the edge on this “Karpalo” version, one of four original colorways for this watch (along with white, black and blue) when it was first launched in 2020. This has been a very successful line, so many additional colorways have come since. But this bold, red beauty still thrills me! ❤️

🚨NWA!🚨

Kicking off a new sub-collection of tones, colors and materials in my Sarpaneva/S.U.F collection with the blue labradorite Vetehinen.

The labradorite family of stones is unlike any stone dial I’ve ever experienced. In most light, it’s like peering into the depths of a lake. Blue with deeper midnight tones, small specks of what I assume is calcium, sodium and aluminum fleck the dial. I’ve tried to capture this calm presence in the first photo.

However, as your eye or the light source moves, cracks start to appear under the surface of the stone, like a frozen lake. You can begin to see this at the bottom half of the dial in photo 2.

Finally, as the light moves at a more severe angle, the whole dial lights up with iridescent greens, blues and oranges like an aurora. This is the hidden beauty of spectrolite shown in the final photo.

It’s difficult to think of a stone that more fully captures the natural beauty of its home in Finland.

Special thanks to @v.v.arzoglou for helping me to secure a beautiful dial and special serial number as these have sold out from their webstore and many retailers quite quickly.

It’s a sort of reimagined diver and a platform for creativity! Everything about the @sufhelsinki Vetehinen is a bit different — from the bezel to the hands to the indexes to the crown. But the creativity on this watch extends to the dial itself, which is rendered in sparkly aventurine glass. The sparkles seem to exist within the dial rather than atop it, so it feels like you’re staring into the depths! The creativity around this watch continues to this day with a newly announced version with a dial crafted of shimmering blue Finnish spectrolite gemstone. I love how this watch can be tied directly to the Finnish landscape where it was conceived, from the Finnish Outokumpu steel, and black salmon leather strap, to the impressionistic dial material. You can FEEL the difference on your wrist!

Today I’m wearing the magical and moving @arminstrom Gravity Equal Force “Tranquility” #topperedition. Co-designing this watch with @robcaplan_topper and @claudegreisler and the team at Armin Strom was definitely one of the highlights of my watch collecting journey. It started as a proposed piece unique, but as the design developed, we agreed to make it a 15 piece limited edition offered by @topperjewelers and they went out into the world from there. Whenever I see someone wearing one, it warms my heart and reminds me what a beautiful hobby we all have and how it brings us all together! This all came back to me on Saturday at the @collectivehorology Open House event in Hollywood where the one and only Claude Greisler, co-founder and master watchmaker at Armin Strom, was the first face I saw when I walked into the room. He’s such a positive guy, full of excitement and energy. It was fun to reminisce with him about the creation of this watch, and also see the incredible new novelties and innovations they have delivered, including that amazing new minute repeater with a Westminster chime! Simply astounding.

It's funny how taste.evolves. I was thrilled when I was able to get the Black Bay GMT back in early 2019. It was my constant travel companion, and a source of pride. Some of my best photos on this feed (IMHO) were of that watch, inspired by its colors and style.

But then I stopped traveling intentionally for a while and it sat unloved - eventually moving on. ...until I picked up a second BBGMT when I began traveling again. But by that time, somehow it just felt too big, and didn't hang around.

Once again, long plane rides and changing time zones primed my mind for the "most romantic" complication (a lovely observation from @twelveninesixthree ) and I wanted a GMT in my life. Lucky for me I had a long layover in Frankfurt, and landed on this evolution of an old companion.

Smaller but still thick, a lot less showy, and with a clasp that should set a new standard for comfort - I'm happy to be back, and surprised at how different this feels on wrist.

But what hasn't changed is just how well Tudor does hand stacks. Perfection. :)

Alright, this has turned into a very heavily front-loaded year, so this is the final and pinnacle #nwa 🚨for 2026.

This is the Sarpaneva Supernova with the mercurial Tiger iron dial. Tiger iron is an interesting rock - from what I’ve read, it’s found in a handful of environments around the world where sedimentary layers of rock are rich in iron and silica. Usually dating between 2 billion to 3 billion years old, heat, pressure and chemical reactions transform the banded iron formations into red jasper, black hematite and tiger’s eye. The black hematite, in particular, adds a lot of visual interest to the dial - it shifts from a reflective blue/black finish in indirect light, only exposing its depth (and the reddish oxidation within) in direct light, matching the red jasper. This causes the dial to shift between reflective blues and black, to much deeper red, black, and gold in direct light. As @timezero_99.5 has pointed out in the past, it’s like brewing pourover coffee. I’ll share some additional photos in the coming week to illustrate this more clearly.

Huge shoutout to @horologybythesea for making this happen. I consigned the Habring2 with Brandon and he had a buyer in record time - it’s hard to think of another independent who has the placement quality, depth of relationships with collectors, online reach, and overall chill dude factor that Brandon has worked hard to build over the years. Really grateful that he and Stepan have partnered up to bring these masterpieces to California, and I‘ll advocate for them all day long.
