The @mbandf M.A.D 2 is such a departure from Neil’s usual vintage 70s dive watch taste, however fits his collection really well. It’s eclectic, very different and it’s a real conversation starter, much like many of his pieces.

For day 4 of #artsyfartsywatchweek, I want to share a work of art that almost never came to be—and my Casio MQ-24.

Between 1967 and 1974, Jim Henson (The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth) and his writing partner Jerry Juhl developed a screenplay for a full-length feature film called Tale of Sand. The film was never made in their lifetimes. It remained in storage until 2011, when acclaimed illustrator Ramon K. Pérez gave it a second life by adapting it into a graphic novel, winning not one, but THREE Eisner awards for Best Graphic Album, Best Penciller/Inker, and best Publication Design.

The box set edition includes the illustrated screenplay; a companion book that allows the reader a glimpse into the creative process that went into bringing his rip-roaring, pulse-pounding, surrealist adventure to life. It features the original screenplay by Henson and Juhl, complete with annotations and proof marks, alongside drafts of Pérez’ stellar illustrations.

I used to draw a lot. My school notebooks were filled with more doodles than actual notes. Then I kind of just…stopped. Strange what we take for granted as we grow older, huh? A few years ago, my brother, a self-taught artist, got me back into drawing again. And because of my 4-year old, my home is once again littered with coloring books, crayons, and every manner of pigment. My life is a lot more vibrant these days. Here are some of my more recent doodles, jammed under a lamp alongside my Casio F-91W-3DG.
