Horology Obsessed: Sharing my personal collection from Seiko to Journe & everything in between! ⏰ 🃏 👻 ⏳Watch some of my Collector Convos below 🎥👇
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Taken from last night's @moserwatches event with @watchjabs

This is my 5th time attending a Moser event and every time they completely blow me away. Highlight of the night for me was getting to try on the collab watch they did with @reebok inspired by the pump shoes. It's such a great watch in person and my favorite in the streamliner case.

Other highlights include the GPHG nominated Endeavour Flyback Chronograph Dual Time Date, which has onenof the best looking movements that Moser has produced, the new mini streamliners (definitely too small for me), and the new Off-Grid model which puts traditional watchmaking and a digital watch together in the same Moser case.

Thanks to Jabs for setting this up!

To my baby boy @steadyprogressioniv on his ninth birthday,

Every day, I wonder how I got so lucky to be your dad. You are sweet, smart, brilliant, and growing into a young man with an integrity and work ethic that are unmatched.

We spend endless hours on fields and courts, and just as many at the dining room table doing homework. Then we get to enjoy the fun stuff too — the Coombs boys trips, experiencing dope things for the first time together, from driving Lamborghinis to meeting professional athletes and everything in between.

My goal as your dad is simply to show you the power of hard work and the rewards that can come from it. I know Daddy is hard on you, but I hope one day you understand why. Your work ethic and your integrity will be two of the greatest gifts I can ever give you.

And to quote your Grandpa:

“My goal for you is that my ceiling will be your floor.”

Happy 9th birthday, Bubba.

I love you more than you’ll ever know.

🔥 HOT TAKE: The Élégante is the Royal Pop to the Vagabondage.

Hear me out.

I love the Élégante. It was my first Journe and my introduction to the Flat Tortue case shape—that thin profile, the rubber strap, the colors. It’s what I classify as a “fun heavy hitter.”

But five years before I owned one, my brother @cq_thewatchguy showed me the Vagabondage.

Same family of case shape. VERY different watch.

And suddenly I understood why the Élégante might be one of the greatest gateway drugs into F.P. Journe.

You may get drawn in by the hype, but you stay for the horology.

Wear an Élégante long enough and eventually you start looking deeper. You learn about the movements. The history. The philosophy. The weirdness of Journe. And somewhere along the way, you start wanting a mechanical Journe.

Earlier this year, @camjwolf interviewed me about the Royal Pop, and it made me think about the comparison.

Part of why I love the Royal Pop is that it can give someone an emotional entry into the AP universe. Maybe the Royal Oak isn’t accessible to them yet. But now they’re wearing AP. They’re learning AP. They’re becoming connected to the brand.

And maybe one day they reach their Royal Oak.

I think the Élégante can do something similar.

Except the irony is that this “gateway” watch has itself become an incredibly serious collectible.

But once you’re through that door, Journe gives you A LOT to discover.

And for me, sitting somewhere at the end of that rabbit hole is the Vagabondage.

So…

Is the Élégante the Royal Pop to the Vagabondage? 👀

As the summer comes to an end, I’ve been thinking back on what is quickly becoming one of my favorite traditions: our annual Martha’s Vineyard event.

I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who continues to support our vision and helps us bring this community together year after year.

And yes… we’re already planning for next year. We will definitely be back on the Vineyard in August! 🙌🏿

A special thank you to the @inkwell.beach.club and @ajcalloway for being such gracious hosts and making us feel at home.

Until next summer, Martha’s Vineyard. 🖤⌚️

As I’ve progressed in watch collecting, I’ve realized there are three parts to the journey.

1. Buying the watch.
Getting the call. Walking into the store. Finally getting the piece you’ve been chasing. It’s probably the biggest dopamine hit in collecting and what keeps many of us coming back.
2. Finding your community.
This is the best part for me. Watch collecting eventually becomes friend collecting. You find good people who love what you love, and eventually those relationships become bigger than the watches.
3. Finding your voice.
To me, this is the most important part.

Am I buying this watch because I love it, or because everyone else loves it?

That can be difficult because so much of our early collecting is influenced by what we’re told is great. Sometimes your taste aligns perfectly with the hype. Sometimes you’re ahead of it. And sometimes people wonder what the hell you were thinking. 😂

But somewhere between the hype and your initial reaction to a watch is your voice as a collector.

These photos are about 10 years apart.

Three Rolexes then.
RM, F.P. Journe and Patek now.

I don’t see one as better than the other. I see the evolution of someone slowly figuring out what speaks to him.

Looking back, the best people who advised me weren’t telling me what to buy. They were helping me find my voice.

And now, one of my favorite parts of this community is helping others find theirs.

Have you found your voice as a collector yet?
