🛶 On Saturday May 16th (1-4pm) we are going CANOEING with WATERWAYS! 📍Meet at: Manitoba Canoe and Kayak Centre, 80 Churchill Dr. (R3L 2W3) ✨ Limited capacity for 12 youth (ages 14-17), priority given to Indigenous youth (First Nations, Inuit, and/or Metis – regardless of status) ⚠️ Registration and Waiver Form required (links in bio!) 🔎 Join us for a half-day canoeing excursion with both land and water-based activities and learning. This program is designed to create connection and build skills in a fun, low-barrier environment! 🔑 Participants should bring sun protection (hat and sunscreen), clothes that can get wet, change of clothes, water bottle 🛶 Who will be your facilitator? My name is Ash Sinclair, I’m a two-spirit Anishinaabe from the community Sagkeeng First Nation, located in Treaty 1 territory along the Winnipeg river. This is my fifth year with Waterways. I’ve always had a deep passion for the outdoors, and spent most of my childhood outside in the trees and along the river and have always loved incorporating my love for photography into it as well. I, like many of the kids I teach have not had a substantial amount of time or experience on the water growing up but had always desired it. Being a part of Waterways gives me the chance to give these kids as well as myself a chance to learn and explore our peoples heritage and traditions. 🛶 Who is Waterways? Waterways Recreation is a youth-focused, Indigenous-led non-profit organization that partners with Indigenous communities, agencies, and partners to deliver canoe programs, which promote wellness and culturally relevant recreation to Indigenous youth across Manitoba. The graphic has a brown background with pale yellow sparkles placed randomly around the text and images. In the same pale-yellow colour, in block text, this graphic says, “Saturday May 16th, CANOEING with WATERWAYS at Manitoba Canoe and Kayak Centre, 80 Churchill Dr (R3L 2W3), 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Youth Ages 14-21, Limited Capacity, Registration & Waiver Required (Link in bio!). In the bottom left corner is the Waterways logo and to the right of that are three canoes.

Canoeing skills are invaluable when you’re paddling local ponds, lakes and rivers…and especially critical on remote and wilderness adventures. Advancing your strokes, technique, and finesse not only expands your knowledge and skills, it provides more confidence, enables more endurance (think less wasted energy and movement), and straight up efficiency. We proudly offer @paddlecanada canoe skills courses from local Manitoba instructors with decades of paddling experience and backgrounds in education and outdoor leadership. Courses range from waterfront basic canoe skills all the way to moving water (think rapids and whitewater).

🧭 Outdoor skills and thrills 🛶 this week out at the lake. One of our greatest joys is partnering with local organizations to co-create more paddling opportunities and grow local outdoor leaders. A huge thanks to everyone who entrusts our experienced instructor team and walks alongside us to invest in the next generation of youth and inspire those who have once paddled but have been disconnected the past number of years! See you on the water!

Canoe Skills and Outdoor Leadership training are essential for any local outfitters, summer camps, outdoor clubs, and school outdoor education programs. We’ve been busy again this spring with courses and workshops to inspire, empower, and support Manitobans (and beyond) in their outdoor leadership journey. Learning and growing is a lifetime of adventure… we’re excited to join you at any point on your journey whether starting out, been leading for a number of years and updating some certs/training, or if your very experienced and want to connect and collaborate to strive in outdoor facilitation excellence together.
