The Summer I Took Film Photos 🎞️📸

As a photographer, taking photos on my mirrorless camera started to just be all about work; I felt a little stagnant in how I captured images. I'd clock in to my gigs with my full kit, do the job and then come home and edit. Everything felt cyclical and the same... until I asked to use my mom's old family film camera. That opened up a whole new world I never really explored. The intentionality when using film was different than the "spray & pray" approach (read: burst mode).

I took my film camera with me to raves, dance parties, parks, gigs and other places. I used different film brands to see the differences and ultimately it was so much more portable than I imagined. It reminded me of flipping through photos my family photo albums that weren't staged and very much in the moment. It reminded me that not everything has to be perfect.

So much has changed in image making/capturing over the last 20+ years and as a photographer apart of this change, I wanted to return back to a time when we weren't able to immediately see the photos on the back of a screen. Even though I just dipped my toes into this medium, I'm happy I did even though my bank account isn't 😅
