Our fantastic photographers capture artists in the spotlight every single night. Now, we want to give those photographers a spotlight of their own!✨

We’ve asked the team to see who’s comfortable in front of the camera rather than exclusively behind it, and in honor of Black History Month we’re kicking off this new series by highlighting a handful of the many incredible Black photographers powering the DMV’s music scene.

Without further ado, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Victoria Ford (@sneakshotphotography ), Brandon Payne (@scrandom_bman ), Jada Imani M (@jadaimanim ), and AJ Waugh (@waufflez ), and a small sampling of some of their favorite photographs.

Each brings their own perspective, creativity, and storytelling to the community, and we’re proud to amplify their vision. Join us in supporting, appreciating, and uplifting these artists not just this month, but always!💛

Work was definitely WORK, but I am beyond grateful to not only use my gift of poetry as the force of my career, but to also be in the company of such incredible people. I love being part of the @dc_scores team 🫶🏽

Big news from the DC SCORES community 🎉

Kayla Nelson, DC SCORES alumna and freshman at @coolidgeearlycollegeacademy, has been named the 2026 DC Youth Poet Laureate!

Kayla first discovered the power of poetry as a poet-athlete with DC SCORES in 2022. Today, she’s using that power to advocate for youth across the District and make space for stories that need to be heard.

“Poetry made me believe that I had a stronger voice than I thought I did,” she said. “I used to be kinda shy and didn’t always speak out a lot or advocate for myself, but with poetry I started to realize that people would listen to me.”

We’re so proud of you, Kayla – and we can’t wait to see where your words take you next! 💙✍🏾

On Oct 4th, @aarielll and I hosted a movie night. What she didn’t know is that I added a movie to our 2 feature showing.

Though I can’t show you all the entire movie , due to music copyright laws, I can show yall one of the best scenes which led to the proposal.

Special thanks to:
Jaf & Tessla : For introducing us
Jaf: for the artwork and animation for the film
Will: for helping me shoot the movie and filming Ariel’s reaction
Dom: for being the crew on set
AJ and Sydd: for the engagement photos
Matt and Mike : for helping me set up the movie night

It’s been exactly one month since I said the easiest Yes of my life💍 and one month of countless people asking me the same questions lol. We wanted our engagement photos to give you a glimpse into who we are at our core. Just a couple of nerds. Big ups to AJ and Syd for photographing us in our element. 🩷　Swipe to the End 🤠🚀💫

Fourth quarter I got to dress up and perform on stage ✨ definitely one of the highlights for 2021 after the @whoreible_decisions 2020 tour was cut short due to the pandemic.
