2x FS Compass 180s into a Tochi!

Saw @groundtrick_nerd doing this combo and wanted to give it a try! I’ve been wanting to get more comfortable with my FS compasses, and sometimes the best way to improve is to challenge yourself to put tricks together instead of just practicing them individually.

Still a work in progress, but that’s what ground tricks are all about! Trying new things, getting things wrong, and slowly figuring it out one rep at a time.

Had some fun playing around with 180 tail drags on both regular and goofy! The trick is so simple, yet it looks so cool in my opinion. It’s all about having good board control and dragging your feet through the rotation without jumping. Simple in theory, but there’s definitely some technique to it!

A new chapter for SBBC 🌊🤙

After more than a decade of leading the South Bay Boardriders Club, our President and Co-Founder Tom Horton is stepping down as President and passing the torch.

It’s hard to put all these years into one post.

SBBC officially got its start on November 12, 2009, when the first meeting was held at Tom’s house. Tom gives a lot of credit to Mike Balzer for the original idea, and to fellow Co-Founders Derek Levy and Dan Bradford for coming together and helping turn that idea into something real.

And what a wave it’s been.

There have been so many accomplishments over the years, but even more importantly, there have been so many great people, friendships, stories, laughs, contests, trips, events, and memories along the way.

Tom wants to give a huge thank you to all of the members, families, volunteers, local surf shops, partners, sponsors, and friends who have supported SBBC over the years. So many people have given their time, energy, and heart to this club, and that’s what has made it so special.

And of course, a very special thank you from Tom to his wife and kids. They’ve been there through all of it, supporting him, sharing their time with the club, and being part of this journey from the beginning. That support has meant more than words can say.

Tom may be stepping down as President, but don’t worry, he’s not going anywhere. He’ll still be around, still involved, still surfing, and still very much part of the SBBC family.

This isn’t a goodbye. It’s just a new chapter and a chance for the next generation to carry things forward.

Thank you, Tom. Here’s to all the memories already made and plenty more still to come. 🤙🌊

Day 16

Went to Wave Rave Slidin Session hosted by @wave_rave_la, @thebutterdojo, and @slidinsideways_ . Had a great time hanging out and meeting people. Tried the Dryslope Ski Machine 🏂.

Mostly practiced the backside 360 compass today. Fell a lot trying to learn it 😂. But finally landed one near the end of the session 🙌.
