Road trip to The Algarve | The whole point of traveling all 11+ hours to Portugal was to finally see where my big bro has decided to call home.

To me, the Algarve is like the San Diego of Portugal, so it makes complete and total sense that Craig lives here now. Close to the waves and with a view of the ocean.

The drive from Lisbon was a fun little family road trip, and kudos to my dad for braving the foreign roads in a large family van with aplomb.

Best of all, we got to see our fur/feathered nieces Cusca and Tita ❣️

Moinho Dom Quixote is a bohemian windmill-turned-cafe near Cabo da Roca in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, about a 50-minute drive west of central Lisbon.

Because this happened so early on in the amazing adventure that was our Eurotrip, I forget how truly special it was. And now, when anyone asks what the highlights were, this ranks at the top of the list.

The restaurant and the scenery were beautiful, but even better was the company. We were all together as a family and joined by friends of Craig + Tami who are Portugal locals. They made the meal and the experience even better.

Tami's sister-in-law had discovered this place when she visited months before, and I'm so glad they insisted we have dinner here too.

Wesson loved busting his Michael Jackson moves and playing on the tire swings. And we...we loved everything.

The town of Sintra is just as charming as you would imagine it to be. In between Pena Palace and Quinta de Regalaria, we had some time to eat a little snack and explore.

Our tour guide "J-Lo" insisted we get pastries from Casa Piriquita. Founded in 1862, they're known for the Travesserio - a flaky puff pastry filled with almond-egg cream. It wasn't as sweet as it sounds. Actually quite well-balanced, it reminded me of marzipan.

You can tell something is good when it gets all over your face and hair, and you just don't care!

We ended our tour in beautiful Cascais (instead of following the group back to Lisbon), because we were already a lot closer to our Airbnb.

A little R&R was exactly what everyone needed before our absolutely breathtaking dinner.

We took home a lot of special memories from our trip, but I want to especially give a shout out to my brothers, my parents and Tami for collectively helping Wesson stay engaged and entertained.

Of course, not every moment was smooth sailing with him and that's rarely the case when traveling with children, but it was much easier carrying the weight of a 7-year-old (both literally and figuratively) with my family by our side every step of the way.

Of course, the fact that we were all able to experience these incredible sights together was the icing on the cake 🎂, the cherry on the sundae 🍒 and the blue cheese-stuffed olive in the dirty martini🍸.

Thank you, fam bam - we are eternally grateful 🙏

The Johnsons are overjoyed to officially announce that we have added a new member to our pack after years of waiting for the right pup to find us! 🫶

Meet Cooper (short for Copernicus ☀️) Smith Johnson

The long journey to each other started back in January, when I promised my boys we could start the search for our dog.

Since then I have followed countless shelters on social, submitted many applications, and have scoured Petfinder and Nextdoor posts for the paw-fect addition.

Little did I know that my brother, @waveglaze would be the key to it all working out for us.

When Craig traveled back home to visit last month, he wanted to foster a dog during that time from @thebarkinglotrescue - where he has volunteered for many years. He had his contacts send us a few options that we may be interested in, and a dog named Dragonfly caught my eye.

When Craig brought him over to meet us, it wasn't necessarily love at first sight, but there was something about Dragonfly (now Cooper) that drew us to him.

Alas, here we are, more in love than we could have possibly imagined after the love we shared with our very first pack member, Gordon. RIP, sweet boy. 💧

Cooper has a heart of gold, a playful spirit and a body built for the cuddliest of cuddles. We are excited for what our future has in store.
