We’re so grateful to every Scholar who joined us tonight and helped make our First Gen Summit at UC Berkeley such a meaningful experience! Highlights included having the upper classment share their advice about classes, jobs, organizations, and taking advantage of opportunities while being the first in their family to navigate living on their own on a campus so far away from home. It was beautiful to see every first-year scholar connect with someone studying in their major, creating relationships that we hope will grow far beyond tonight.

This is what it means to build community. We are grateful for @wavyy.abdi , who helped provide the Senate Chambers for us, and for Vanessa, who led a powerful and meaningful dialog of what can happen when scholars connect, learn from one another, open doors, and create opportunities together at UC Berkeley.

Our hope is to one day not just do this at Cal, but across all college campuses throughout the nation.

And earlier today, the First Gen Scholars team was in Sacramento at the UC Counselor Conference, learning more about the @uofcalifornia application process and what has changed this year.

We’re excited to put what we learned into action as we support the Class of 2027 on their journey to college!

Reflecting on a year of hard work and community…

Together, the OEVP created a mutual aid fund of $6K total for campus workers, distributed $10K of basic needs supplies to students, and gave free laundry stipends to 100 students with the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. We also created the Basic Needs Committee in partnership with the Student Advocate’s Office, institutionalized the Undocumented Student Affairs Commission, engaged in conversations with the campus CFO and Provost about the ASUC’s involvement in the campus budget process, and filmed videos with Student Affairs to increase visibility of campus services. Most importantly, we passed a campus-wide referendum with 74% in favor of Berkeley divesting from military weapons & mass surveillance companies.

In addition, at the ASUC Banquet, Isha & Clara (ASUC Spaces Director) won Executive of the Year and Support Staff of the Year respectively in recognition of their work.

By the numbers:
- Built an office of 90 incredible members
- Passed 26 Resolutions through the ASUC Senate
- Hosted 20 community events
- Supported an Association with 48 units and 1.7k staff

More than anything, it was the moments along the way that made it worthwhile. We are so grateful for this year, and excited to see how the ASUC continues to advocate for students!

Yesterday was an important reminder of why access matters.

Scholars traveled together on the BART from Berkeley to downtown San Francisco to meet @lazy_luzanne and her fellow Googlers who are literally opened doors for our Scholars into the Google SF offices!

From sharing a meal together, to giving us a glimpse of what happens behind-the-scenes, to hosting a thoughtful Q&A about careers and pathways into tech.

The best part was hearing their stories of persistence and finding their path. Just like the DeLorean on display, the Googlers are changing the timeline so the next generation can see themselves in these spaces.

Thank you all for sharing your workplace, time wisdom, and your belief in our Scholars.
