Hush. 🤫 How many times I gotta prove I’m really that guy? Only 4.5 years into boxing, and I’m still getting better. The ceiling doesn’t exist. 😈

This Quincy youth boxer is already a national champion at 12 years old

Brendan McIntyre's championship belts rest on a curtain rod above a shelf well-stocked with trophies and medals.

Room for more accolades appears to be scarce. But the youth boxer from Quincy will surely make more room soon.

McIntyre, 12, was crowned a national champion after capturing the National Junior Olympics title in Kansas in late-June, and prevailed again in the Front Street Brawl in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 25.

His next quest is the U.S. Boxing National Open in Cleveland, Ohio on Sept. 26.

McIntyre owns a record of 15-3 in two years of competing. He trained for four years before entering in his first organized bout in 2024, switching from playing football and basketball in town to devoting his around-the-clock focus to boxing.

“I’ve had great, elite fighters, but never a kid that trains and is as dedicated on the level of B-Mac," said trainer Pierre Aubry of Waymaker Boxing Club in Dorchester. "Even with the adults, out of all of the fighters that I train, he’s one of the best students, hands down.”

McIntyre, a sixth-grade honors student at Broad Meadows Middle School, entered the national competition in Kansas with just 13 fights of experience. 15 other competitors filled out the bracket.

“Almost every kid in the bracket had 40-plus fights, so we kind of expected a win or two. Nothing too crazy," said McIntyre's mother Brittany, who judges amateur boxing on the side. "But he made it to he finals and he won, which was wild to us. We never really expected that.”

“I feel like the hard work really paid off," Brendan McIntyre said. "I’m hoping for the same success and hard work to pay off again in September.”

McIntyre trains in the gym with his father, Sean, daily for three hours, said Brittany McIntyre, who met her husband as they were classmates at North Quincy High. There isn't a long line of boxing history in the family; Sean McIntyre was a standout soccer player at North, but they starting going to TMX in Quincy during the pandemic as a way to exercise.
