Over the years, Music For Mavericks has released multiple compilations. One of which is the WCMA-nominated album JALI Volume 1. Under the name Mahogany Public, the Oozeela-produced album featured the likes of Waymatea, Brett Miles, Kevin Brereton, Ian Keteku, Titilope Sonuga, S.T.U.G.A., and more. The album was recorded at the Mavericks’ home studio and the now-defunct Sound Extractor.

What an amazing night!

Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate my & @davideggenab’s nominations last night. We felt the love!

We’ve never had as divisive, destructive & dishonest a government as Danielle Smith’s UCP.

We can’t let it continue.

And David, I & all our colleagues are ready to bring ethical, competent back.

An @albertandp government. ✊🏽🧡#ableg

Recently, one of the best days ever was having a lunch date with these two beauties. We celebrated their promotions to Regional Manager, and made plans for the next big trip- to 🇨🇭Switzerland. Thank you to @sonja.ao and @roxanne.aoglobe, for your commitment and integrity, for demonstrating outstanding work ethic, and for protecting union members and their families. Your presence is a blessing to the culture of our team. #aoletsgrow #tinymightytough

Happy Black History Month 2026!

Alberta Music is now accepting applications for its Black Music Mentorship Program.

This year’s program will be held in person in Edmonton and Calgary and will feature 2 days of programming focusing on artistic and professional development. This program is open to artists, self-managed artists, and industry professionals.

Day one will focus on defining you an artist’s vision, career planning, and attainable goal setting. This will be accomplished through a series of discussions, exercises, and one-on-one meetings. Leaving every artist or industry professional with a framework that will help them focus their vision, guide their progress, and achieve their goals.

The second day will focus on music publishing and songwriting. This session will include a live songwriting demo so artists can witness first hand the benefits of collaborative songwriting and the benefits of working with an experienced producer; a keynote presentation on music publishing; and an afternoon songwriting camp to put learned skills into action and receive professional feedback.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must:

- Be actively working in Black Music as an artist or industry professional
- Be ready to work with national contacts
- Be Able to attend in-person sessions on Feb 21st & 22nd

The deadline to submit is Friday, February 15th at 11:59PM MST.

This initiative is funded by Factor and the Government of Alberta.

If you know a Black Artist from Alberta that should sign-up tag them!!!

There’s something tender about this time of year.
The way the dark stretches out, asking you to slow down, listen in, and meet yourself in the quiet places you usually move past.

On December 20, @waymatea , @thekristamendez and I are gathering in ceremony to honor the Winter Solstice.

An afternoon of circling, intention, and ecstatic dance, with light refreshments to help you land afterward and a small gift for everyone who joins us.

If you feel the pull to mark the turning of the light in community, we would love to hold that space with you.

DM SOLSTICE for the link to register.

“Dancing can’t change your whole life.”

Oh wait. Maybe it can. 😂

For the last 10 years of leading Inner Journeys Ecstatic Dance, movement has changed me in ways I never expected. It reshaped my relationship with my body and reminded me that no matter what shape or season I’m in, my body supports me, holds me, and is my home.

When I feel stressed, disconnected, out of alignment, or just not myself, coming back to my body is the quickest way I know to feel grounded, calm, and clear again. Music and movement are the medicine that bring me home every time, and seeing that transformation in others has been incredible.

If you are feeling called, we are holding a special Winter Solstice ceremony on the longest night of the year. A night to return inward, reset, and prepare for the path back into the light. It will be an evening of dance, meditation, circling, and deep introspection, guided by myself and two amazing soul sisters.

I will link more information in the comments.
Spots are limited and this will sell out.

Come dance with me. Let your body lead you home. 💜
