Throwback Thursday:
All the way to last week (just got the photo back), when I had the great pleasure to host my good friends, @davehall1911, @wb1rds_ and their lovely dog, Gunner to the Gray Room to catch up and then film an upcoming video on HK’s in service with the SEALs, including a new, limited release rifle. Just another day at HK that didn’t suck.

Throwback Thursday. In the winter of 2000 / 2001 and running through the summer of 2001 @wb1rds_ and I enjoyed Sundays shooting at Blackwater on the weekends that I was home during our platoon work up over all those months.

Our platoon was a great group of guys. We would socialize together several times a week when we were back at the beach. Our wives and girlfriends would meet us wherever we were having a few beers ( most often at @chicksoysterbar ).

@wb1rds_ and I held a party at our oceanfront apartment that lasted all Memorial Day weekend in 2001. The whole platoon and some guys from other platoons and departments at the Team came and brought their ladies. We had tons of crawfish flown in by our Cajun teammates. It was a blast.

We’d never know that type of closeness with our tribe again.

Some of the guys in the pics have passed away, one is now a retired Admiral, a couple became Command Master Chiefs, one was the point man that shot OBL in 2011. Several served or still serve at the highest level in the Teams.

We had no idea on September 10, 2001, 25 years ago today how drastically it was all going to change.

We would be the first SEAL platoon to deploy after 9-11 from the east coast just days after the attacks.

25 years ago. I had just finished a platoon deployment work up. We lost a couple guys due to injury and marital problems. Our sister platoon lost a man when Scotty Danielson was killed in training on a really stormy night at the end of February 2001.

I flew to Minnesota a couple days before 9-11 to see my kids before our 6-month deployment started which was scheduled for the last week in September.

@wb1rds_ and I were happy together and living in a tiny seaside apartment at the oceanfront. My platoon was really tight, One of my new guys was living with us for the few weeks we had left before the deployment. Tracey and I, a teammate and two dogs in a 300 square foot second floor apartment made out of a True Value oceanside garage which had been put up around 1920 or so. Other than finding a couple replacements for the guys we lost we were in the packing up to go stage of what had been an exciting and strenuous work up period.

Little did we know what fate had in store for us right around the corner.

Wristwatch Wednesday with @wb1rds_ running errands around town today. We’ve both been wearing the @watchesofespionage WOE-ZA Commando Strap lately.

Wristwatch Wednesday. @wb1rds_ and I really enjoyed having breakfast and talking with @gregwatchman yesterday morning. We were in his neck of the woods for the weekend and really enjoyed meeting him in person. We have so many common interests and connections outside the watch community, also.

Last night in the “backyard”. A fantastic fireworks display.

We all appreciated the effort. We’re literally within the area where the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 were fought.

Very cool.

Remembering and honoring the Naval Combat Demolition Units that breached the way into the invasion beaches of Normandy to free fortress Europe from Nazi oppression on June 6, 1944.

We owe you all a debt of gratitude that cannot be repaid.

USN Mk1 and Mk2 knives used by NCDU’s and UDT during WWII.

The BUSHIPS watches are remakes by @mkiiwatch, called the “Baku” which is shortened Japanese slang for “demolitioneer”.

A portion of the BUSHIPS watch sales by @mkiiwatch offset the cost of @projectrecover’s efforts to locate the remains of American WWII service members including the 3 missing men from UDT-10.

The Project Recover team is currently onsite in Palau in the South Pacific and we wish them safety and success.

A couple more Expert Grade equivalent M1 Garands made by us for our collection at the @thecmporg this weekend.

We always have such a great time with the CMP in Anniston, AL. Rob did a great job as the course lead and it was really nice to see everyone we met last year again.

Both of our receivers were WWII production guns by Springfield Armory. So cool to rebuild them and bring them back online with new barrels, gas cylinders, stocks and re-parked SA components .

Wristwatch Wednesday. @wb1rds_ and I checked out this Breitling Emergency at the Breitling Boutique last weekend.

The Breitling Boutique lived up to its sketchy rep by offering beer and liquor while you tried on watches. There were definitely a couple of sketchy guys sampling both the spirits and the time timepieces, but that’s to be expected.
