PREVIEW - PIAA D1 Boys Lacrosse 2A First Round Playoffs:

1. Marple Newtown vs. 8. Upper Moreland

3-time defending PA state champs Marple edged out Shanahan for the top seed. As always, the Tigers are battle-tested, well coached, and know how to win big games. Can Marple continue its postseason dominance? Their quest starts tonight.

2. Bishop Shanahan vs. 7. Strath Haven

Shanahan was cruising this season until losing their phenomenal leader Nate Bracken to injury (*we wish Nate a speedy recovery). After back-to-back losses to Rustin and D-East, Shanahan rallied and closed strong. Still loads of talent, well coached, strong on FO and in goal.

Shanahan gets a tough draw in Strath Haven. The Panthers claimed the 7 seed by winning their last 4 games. Strath Haven is experienced, solid in all phases, and will make Shanahan compete tonight.

3. Upper Dublin vs. 6. Holy Ghost Prep

Thanks to a stellar out-of-conference schedule (Marple, St. Joe’s Prep, Penn Charter, Ridley, D-East), Upper Dublin has plenty of big game experience to draw on. The SOL American champs won their last 5 games and are likely too much for HGP to handle.

4. Penncrest vs. 5. West Chester East

Can’t ask for a better match up here. Both teams finished 11-7. Both went through the gauntlet in the two best (non-private) leagues in PA: Central & Ches-Mont.

After a 1-3 start, Penncrest elevated its play, incl. thrilling wins over Marple and Conestoga. Drexel-commit Aaron Goldstein is one of the top players in the area.

WC East is the hottest team in 2A, riding a 6-game win streak. The Vikings were highly competitive in every game this season, with close losses to D-West, Rustin, Shanahan, D-East, Henderson, and Avon Grove (OT). WC East features one of the top defenses in the area: athletic, experienced, and deep.

Expecting a close battle between two of PA’s most dangerous 2A teams.
