Senior, Rian Thompkins won the Mari-Rae Sopper Spirit Award this past weekend at the 2026 WCGNIC Championships!

This award is presented each year to a gymnast who embodies true passion, dedication, and commitment to the sport of gymnastics. It honors the legacy of Mari-Rae Sopper, who tragically lost her life aboard American Airlines Flight 77 on September 11, 2001 while traveling to start her new job as the head women’s gymnastics coach at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Rian is only the third University of Bridgeport gymnast in history to earn this recognition. WE ARE SO BEYOND PROUD OF YOU, RIAN! 💜🫶🥹
