A first look at a world premiere, and a moment with the playwright and legend behind it. 💛 We were invited to dress rehearsal for Ken Ludwig’s 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘫𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘦, 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵 2: 𝘕𝘢𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘗𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘦𝘺 at @wcplayhouse — and met the legendary writer @playwrightkenludwig of 𝘊𝘳𝘢𝘻𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘠𝘰𝘶 and 𝘔𝘰𝘰𝘯 𝘖𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘉𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘢𝘭𝘰 himself.

Reg Rogers @rigrog100 from the recent Broadway revival of 𝘔𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘞𝘦 𝘙𝘰𝘭𝘭 𝘈𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨, is a standout as Napoleon. Quite the houseguest for the Darcys.

Fast, witty, and a reminder that the Darcys’ story has plenty of unfinished business.

Now through November 7 at the historic Westport Country Playhouse.

Nicky Glossman is a name you should know. Last night’s 𝘗𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘙𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘦 at @wcplayhouse took us to France in 1818, where an oddly-intentioned art restoration brings three people together. As their pasts are introduced, the story keeps shifting. We loved how carefully it was constructed—and how little we could predict.

Tom Hanks, Tony Shalhoub, and Wendie Malick were masters at work, and Nicky Glossman gave them the material to work with. The depth of the characters and sophistication of the story is what made watching those three all the more compelling.

He was first published by Samuel French at fifteen after winning a national playwriting competition, he’s since written plays including 𝘓𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵, 𝘛𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘴, and 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘰𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘑𝘦𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘮. History and research runs through much of his work.

Nicky was humble and gracious afterward, telling us he started writing as a performer to create roles for himself. Handing those roles over to Tony Shalhoub or Tom Hanks seems like a good problem to have.

Meeting artists like Nicky and hearing how they found their way into the work is inspirational. We’ll see whatever he writes next.

🎭 Just a few hours before showtime last night, the Westport Country Playhouse announced that Tom Hanks would join Wendie Malick and Tony Shalhoub onstage ...

The star-studded reading of “Portrait of a Woman in Repose” marked the theater’s 100th Script in Hand, and one moment had the full house roaring.
