“I am resilient
I will not quit
I am strong
I am capable
I will adapt
I choose to heal
I am grateful
I am doing my best
I am amazing
I believe in myself
I am brave”

These affirmations live on a bell in the burn unit of Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio. Wes got a bad road rash and was treated here—we are so grateful for their care. The people are so smart, kind, strong, and inspirational.

August has been rough! We are getting through it and ending on a high note…..not without the amazing support of our family and community, though.

The studio is ready for a fun shoot this week and I can’t wait to share more about it!

Hello I’m Marta Lou 🌝 I am a stained glass artist and general crafty bitch. I love finding inspiration and salvaging crap and crud at estate sales and thrift stores. But my biggest inspiration is Texas plants, animals and landscapes. I also love mixing all that together with my family in the desolate western hill country and try to create the most peaceful, fun, whimsical life possible. This is just a glimpse into parts of my life—I’ll admit it’s a highlight reel…but I love talking with friends here and encouraging artists that they are magical. I believe we can change the world with a dose of artistry and confident-whimsy 🤠🕺🌟❤️ Have a great weekend my friends and please reach out with commission leads 😅

Dispatches from the Back Roads of Texas Presidio de San Saba (What could have been)

I made my first journey to the Presidio de San Saba for a Dark Sky event last weekend. The good news is that the ruins at the old frontier fort are amazing, and the people putting on the event did everything they could to make this first of its kind event (at this site) work out.

The bad news is that some of the site infrastructure modifications that would have removed some significant light pollution elements were delayed by some of the weather issues that we suffered in this neck of the woods. I talked to several of the principles who laid out their plans, and I am confident that the next time this event occurs, the skies that we are able to experience will look something like what you see in this image.

What you are seeing here is the entry to the Presidio, lit up by some parking lot lights to my right, taken on the night of the event. The night skies were captured separately at approximately the same time last year, at a favorite site of mine that is approx. 20 miles to the west of this location in Menard, TX. The sky image is a 12 image stack, with 16 flat images (for noise reduction), stacked in Sequator. The two images were composited and finished in Photoshop.

What could have been.

The stars at night are big and bright...

The gospel according to Willie Nelson…

Thank you Kahu Peter and Madge for hosting us! 💚 we were invited to church in Hana and Wes sang Willie Nelson..of course! If you know us that makes a lot of sense.

Wes and I both grew up going to church, and we still do on occasion. It’s a big part of my family culture, and I will pass on the tradition of the sacraments to my daughter. I believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit…but I think I’m an in-betweener like Willie sings.

I have found God in art, the river, the wind, birds, and just noticing and feeling things.

“At a time when the world seems to be
Spinning hopelessly out of control
There’s deceivers and believers
And old in-betweeners
That seem to have no place to go

Well it’s the same old song
It’s right and it’s wrong
And livin’ is just something I do
And with no place to hide
I looked in your eyes
And I found myself in you

I looked to the stars
Tried all of the bars
And I’ve nearly gone up in smoke
Now my hands on the wheel
Of something that’s real
And I feel like I’m goin’ home…”

Hey yall! This has been a fun project over the last few weeks…almost done! It’s a hardware kit Wes and I perfected to help intermediate stained glass artists install panels into windows. I’m writing a guide on how to use my “ultimate stained glass tracks kit.” But I’m also showing you how to make your own if you are overseas or if this inspires something else in you. The guide is starting to resemble my poetry project from 9th grade—in a good way. I hope I can help somebody, somewhere out there. But it’s just been fun collaborating with my husband and doing something a little different. Sincerely, Marta ✨🌟 #stainedglass #glasstracks #stainedglassinstallation #windowinstallation #stainedglassartist
