New Article ✨️ "Artists Showing Us Resistance is Real"

Starting the year off with a feature of some incredible artists in the Punk, Metal, and Alternative genres that have been using their musical platform to inspire change and action.

"Speaking up for communities facing injustice is always a necessity. We rely on our people, when governments and institutions fail us. Musicians throughout the decades have been able to channel our rage, pain, and exhaustion in their artistry and creativity. Their music is what gives us hope, and the reassurance that not only are we not alone, but that we have more power than we think when we stand up for one another."

Stokely Carmichael’s UC Berkeley Speech x Jungle - Juneteenth mix <3

Stokley Carmichael (also known as) Kwame Ture was an American activist who played a major role in the civil rights movement in the United States and the global pan-African movement. He’s widely known for popularizing the phrase ‘Black Power’ during the 60’s. Kwame was one of the first Black Americans to advocate for Black self determination while also challenging the ideals of nonviolence and integration.

Happy Juneteenth 🤎🤍🖤!! During this time of great change and upheaval of the current social paradigm, it’s been put on my heart to share the words of our ancestors who’ve fought the same battle we still continue to fight. Lowkey pissed as f*ck that we’re still fighting the same battles but f*ck it we ball. It disgusts me to see the rotting corpse of america trying to keep itself alive yet I’m grateful for the disillusionment of the world at large. I don’t know if the war on white supremacy is able to be won but I’ll do everything in my power to sever it from my own consciousness and the people who choose to engage with me.

Thanks to Derrick Lesnau, Chief Executive Officer @simsfoundation for stopping by our SW school this week with Texas legend @griffinbevis!

The SIMS Foundation provides mental health and substance use recovery services and supports for musicians, music industry professionals, and their dependent family members.

Through education, community partnerships, and accessible managed care, SIMS seeks to destigmatize and reduce mental health and substance use issues, while supporting and enhancing the wellbeing of the music community at large.

In honor of our beloved Andrew Zent, a $1000 donation was made on his behalf since SIMS was his favorite local non-profit, and also a big part of his life.

Only a few hours left to donate to SIMS for @amplifyatx! For more info, go to simsfoundation.org
