Maryland needs more affordable housing. But we also need to help people keep the homes they already have.

A @mdcomptroller report found that nearly half of Maryland renters spend more than 30% of their income on rent.

Maryland's Access to Counsel in Evictions (ACE) law gives eligible renters facing eviction the right to a free lawyer to help them fight to stay in their homes.

ACE is now fully implemented statewide.

Building more housing matters. Keeping Marylanders housed matters, too.

When a renter faces eviction, a lawyer can explain their rights, help them respond in court, and explore options that may allow them to remain housed. That's how legal representation can support housing stability.

Learn how ACE works. Share what you learn. Connect eligible renters with free legal help.

Saturday 10/17/26
I had the privilege of coordinating the Family Night Out event. This event was not open to the public. It was specifically for families that were impacted by IC@. This FREE event allowed me to showcase the Family Self Advocacy Guide. A guide I worked on for a couple of months. It’s based on my own experience advocating for my husband @freerodneytaylor

The opportunity came from @elrefugiostewart fellowship. I enjoyed putting this event together and could not have done it without @vecinosbufordhighway Amilcar, Johanna, Bailey, Stephanie and Stephanie, Collins all the amazing volunteers, my selfless husband @freerodneytaylor @community_deeply_rooted_ , The Church of The Incarnation and the families that attended-my family included🩷❤️ 🙏🏾

I pray this family self advocacy guide help keep families together, save lives from dy*ng in detention, and deportation. Share it with someone you know.

MATCH Up at the Annual CASA Fall Festival 🍂
We had a wonderful time hosting a booth at this year’s CASA Fall Festival in Woodbridge! This year we were thrilled to partner with another amazing youth-led organization, Glow Forward, led by Rania Chaudhary, who traveled all the way from Loudoun County to join us.
Our maternal and child health services included:
For moms: clothing, housewares and kitchenware, and shoes
For babies: Mommy & Me baskets filled with postnatal essentials like diapers, lotion, onesies, pacifiers, infant Tylenol, and nursing pads, plus baby bouncers, car seats and more
The rain didn’t dampen our enthusiasm one bit! We shared smiles, laughter and pupusas with our neighbors, and we’re so grateful to everyone who stopped by.
We believe every newborn deserves to come into a world full of love, and every new mom deserves to feel cared for, supported and never alone. Becoming a mother is one of life’s biggest journeys, and no one should have to take it without a community behind them. Every basket we pack is our way of saying: we see you, and we’re here for you.
Thank you to CASA for hosting and to Glow Forward for partnering with us. We can’t wait for next year!

It was an incredible honor to share this space with such amazing singers and musicians! Thank you all so much for coming out, donating to important causes, supporting local organizations, and making this a memorable and fulfilling experience! 💓

And thank you to our host @homewoodfriends and all of our awesome sponsors, affiliates, and participating organizations: @asyleewomen , @singingresistance , @mennoniteaction_dmv , @charmcityindivisible , and the Resistance Knitters!

From Emily:
This song is called “Lead With Love” and was written by Oakland-based composer Melanie DeMore the day after the 2016 election. She was doing a residency in a middle school and her students were worried about what would happen to them and their families. She reminded them that great leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, started their movements out of the love for their people, not their hatred of someone else. “So you gotta lead with love.”

Original lyrics:

Chorus:
You gotta put one foot in front of the other and lead with love
Put one foot in front of the other and lead with love
(2x)

Call & repeat:
Don’t give up hope! (echo)
You’re not alone (echo)
Don’t you give up (echo)
Keep movin’ on (echo)

[Chorus]

Call & repeat:
Lift up your eyes! (echo)
Don’t you despair! (echo)
Look up ahead (echo)
The path is there (echo)

[Chorus]

Call & repeat:
I know you’re scared (echo)
And I’m scared too (echo)
But here I am (echo)
Right next to you (echo)
[Chorus]
