This past September we celebrated the 9th Annual Cannabis Opportunities Conference! 🌱

This gathering is about more than cannabis—it’s about creating opportunities, supporting entrepreneurship, and building pathways to economic growth for communities across Pennsylvania.

I’m proud to join the leaders, advocates, entrepreneurs, and community members as we continue the conversation around equity, opportunity, and a responsible cannabis industry.

Here’s to another year of connection, collaboration, and creating opportunities that reach every community.

Proud to see Cresco Labs sponsoring @blackcannabisweek once again. Righting the harms of the war on cannabis requires meaningful action: businesses must do their part, while state and federal leaders must step up to support social equity, small businesses, farmers, and working-class communities.

#Pennsylvania should reject a state-store model that limits Black, Brown, and independent ownership. When marginalized communities rise, WE ALL RISE.

Thank you to the leaders who make this event happen and thank you @barb4pgh for making the trip and being on a panel to advocate for #Pittsburgh residents and our community.

The Diasporic Alliance for Cannabis Opportunities ( @wearedaco ) will present its 9th Annual Cannabis Opportunities Conference during Black Cannabis Week, taking place September 25–27 in Philadelphia. The three-day event will bring together policymakers, entrepreneurs, students and advocates for programming focused on policy, workforce development, scholarships, record-clearing resources and community healing.

Black Cannabis Week was founded to address the gap between rapidly developing economic opportunities in the cannabis industry and communities that have historically been excluded from them. The Philadelphia-based platform brings together policy, economic mobility, workforce development, entrepreneurship, restorative justice, education, wellness and culture under a single umbrella.

The conference is led by Dr. Brandi Hester-Harrell, Executive Producer of Black Cannabis Week, and Cherron Perry-Thomas, MBA, owner of Plant and People and founder of Black Cannabis Week and co-founder of DACO. The event will also include policymakers, business owners, advocates, educators, students, researchers, workforce-development leaders and community members.

Friday, September 25

Policy Summit — 8:30 a.m., DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Philadelphia Center City, 237 S. Broad St.

Support The Living Well Again Through CLLCTIVGive

Last year, you showed up for The Living Well through CLLCTIVGive, and your generosity helped us do what we have always been called to do: create spaces where our people can gather, heal, remember, imagine, and build.

Because of your support, we were able to keep the Well flowing.

We held healing-centered gatherings, expanded the Living Library Human Story Exchange, launched and nurtured Living Pages Journal Circles, supported Breaking Free Healing Circles for Black men, created space for women’s stories, intergenerational reflection, cultural memory, and community repair, and continued growing The Black Canni as a platform for cannabis, culture, education, ancestral healing, and economic opportunity.

Your giving helped us move resources back into community. It helped us hold space outside of traditional institutions. It helped us support Black-led, community-rooted work that often happens quietly, consistently, and with deep care.

This year, we are asking you to support us again through CLLCTIVGive.

Our 2026 goal is to raise $50,000 to sustain and expand the work that our community has already affirmed is needed. Your donation will help support:

Living Library and Journal Circles that preserve stories, reduce isolation, and build intergenerational connection.

Breaking Free Healing Circles that offer Black men a safe, competent, and culturally grounded space for reflection, healing, accountability, and brotherhood.

Black Canni programming that brings together cannabis, culture, community education, policy, repair, and entrepreneurship.

Support for five ancillary cannabis entrepreneurs who are building pathways into economic opportunity, healing work, and community leadership.

At The Living Well, we believe culture is infrastructure. We believe healing happens in relationship. We believe stories carry power. We believe community members are not just participants; they are wisdom keepers, leaders, builders, and living libraries.

When you give to The Living Well, you are not just funding events. You are investing in the conditions that make collective care possible.

Today, 37 organizations across Virginia and beyond stood together to oppose punitive amendments added to SB542 in the Senate Courts of Justice Committee.
These amendments move Virginia backward by increasing penalties, reinstating mandatory minimums, and re criminalizing conduct that legalization was meant to address. They contradict the intent of SB542, undermine years of progress to undo the harms of the War on Drugs, and will disproportionately impact Black communities, people of color, and low income Virginians.

Our request is clear. Our letter states that Senate Finance Committee must remove these amendments in their entirety and prioritize getting legalization right. Regulation should be responsible, equitable, and focused on public health and economic opportunity, not punishment.

Signing this letter does not mean endorsing the retail bill. It means rejecting harmful amendments that further criminalize our communities. Thank you to everyone who publicly oppose this.
Virginia deserves better. Stay tuned to see what the senate finance committee does by subscribing to our newsletter.

Thank You for Making the Black Canni: Legacy & Life Edition a Living Vision

With deep gratitude, we thank every circle leader, partner, sponsor, and community member who showed up with love, intention, and commitment this weekend.

We began our journey in rhythm and reverence—with a libation and drum meditation, grounding us in the lineage of resilience that has carried this movement forward. Our legacy operators shared powerful stories of resistance and restoration, reminding us that their courage laid the foundation for the regulated market we are now shaping together.

We honored the late, great Cannabis Healer Matthew “Mateo Blu” Rice, raising $1,000 in his memory to continue the healing and creative work he championed. Together, we explored pathways into the regulatory and ancillary markets, celebrated community enterprise, and danced the night away to Afro Beats at Terra Café.

On Day Two at the Historic Harlem Theater, we gathered again for an infused tea ceremony and morning meditation, deepening our understanding of the endocannabinoid system, exploring cannabis in the death and dying process, and connecting through breathwork and embodiment.

This was more than an event—it was a vision realized, a testament to what happens when community leads with heart, history, and healing.

Special thanks to The Living Well Team, whose unwavering presence, creativity, and service spirit make these moments possible.
