“Week Knees at nash grill”
April 5

This is an experimental piece where I stepped outside my usual grayscale style and explored the use of vibrant colors. I was inspired by a member of the band Week Knees, who performed at Nash Grill on April 5th. Their stage presence was so captivating, it completely drew me in. I found myself entirely focused on them throughout the set. This painting captures that moment of immersion and the energy they projected on stage.

Time for some catch-up posting:

Nashgrill III… What can I even begin to say? My first DIY show changed my life. A lot of people say that, and that’s because it’s true. For me, it was the way the air felt after a song that may never make it on the radio rattled me to my core. The way it made me reflect on my own experiences as a musician & my previous notions that I wasn’t good enough for live music or that it wasn’t for me. In a DIY space, the music belongs to all of us through community. More than that, with events like this, it belongs to everyone, even those who have not found a place at the table yet.

I joined @nashgrilltn to help more people like me find the music that will change their lives and to host events to bring people on both sides of the wall of death together. It’s been incredibly fulfilling for me & I’m deeply blessed to see little fruits of that labor often. This day though, this memory that I have of Nashgrill III, along with the support we were able to provide @nicenashville convinces me that we’re doing that. That DIY is alive, not just in culture, but in community. And that we’re gonna change each other’s lives.

Enough about me though. To all the performers and volunteers, thank you. Many of you are friends who gave your time & money more than once this past year to keep Nashgrill’s vision alive. You helped us make real change in our community. Stay involved & hold each close, in case you’ve forgotten, this is what it’s all about.

Here’s to many more years of @nashgrilltn
Nashville DIY, I love you. ❤️🌭

My mentor a long time ago told me,

“always do an audition even if you think you aren’t good enough. The worst thing they will say is no”

I listened to that advice and took a leap of faith auditioning for week knees. Turns out, it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Not only did I meet 3 of my closest friends. Ive also grown so much as a person. This band means so much to me; with out this band I would have never been able to record in professional studios, go on tour, even meeting all the people I call my friends in Nashville DIY, as well as playing alongside bands I looked up to and inspired by.
They were the first people I came out to and they graciously accepted me with open arms.

Like all good things, they must come to an end. Week knees is playing our farewell show may 15th. I’m excited to see what everyone does with their projects and their life journeys.. week knees will always be special to me as it special to you
