Bespoke music and sound design for “THIS IS HIM. NOW”, directed by @tomday for @m.itauma

Tom used a piece of choral reference music which acted as the foundation of the soundtrack. With this in mind, we sourced a sample of a melody sung by an individual choir singer which we could build upon.

We layered up six choral instruments to give the score a grandiose scale, and then sampled this to become the basis for the trap/grime track that plays at the beginning and end of the film.

The sound design needed to be hectic and overwhelming, so every detail of the space required a sound: from the voices of the people walking across the frame, to the shadow boxers just out of shot.

To focus the audience’s attention on the rawness of Itauma’s punches we wanted to gradually isolate his audio as he is revealed. This meant re-creating all of his sounds by stacking layer upon layer of recordings and samples.
