It was an absolute thrill to share the craft of traditional printing at the opening and artist talk. Also it is inspiring to hear three talented artists @sherman.tempest @calebsam @kok_yew speak about the ideas behind their work. Bringing an 18th-century craft into conversation with contemporary art and today’s scene is a true honor—keeping the tactile tradition alive through new visions. The exhibition is currently on view at Wei Ming Ming @weimingmingwmm , Taipei, running through October 30, 2026. Photo No. 5 & 8 & 9 CR @riantlove

..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ⟢ 【 🇹🇼Taipei Special “When We Behold the Trees” Artists Meetup ↟𖥧 Recap 】 Earlier, the panel discussion “When We Behold the Trees” was held at Wei Ming Ming @weimingmingwmm in Taipei, featuring Taipei-based image worker Chong Kok Yew @kok_yew alongside Hong Kong artists Caleb Fung @calebsam and Sherman Lam @sherman.tempest. From the twisted yet unyielding will to survive along Hong Kong’s coastline under raging winds, to the ancient banyan trees in British greenhouses bearing memories of diaspora and nostalgia, and to the felled tree remains on Taiwan’s streets turned into temporary monuments amid urban development. Through their images, the three creators revealed three distinct fates of trees across these lands: resilient life, displacement in foreign soil, and erased death. Founded in 2022, Wei Ming Ming @weimingmingwmm (meaning "Untitled") is tucked away within Taipei’s traditional commercial districts. As an artist-run space, it maintains an open, raw, and non-selective posture, consistently disrupting the established viewing orders and production structures of contemporary art in Taiwan. Within a narrow and highly self-replicating art scene, Wei Ming Ming acts as a temporary rupture—a place where failure, noise, misreadings, and the "unfinished" are encouraged to persist. For its Swab Barcelona 2026 debut, Wei Ming Ming presents Island of Ghosts. In Taiwan, an unpredictable future forces people to look back at remnants of a vanished past to anchor their present existence. Colonial legacies, migration, and Strait politics coalesce into a state of survival suspended between memory and reality. This manifests through material constraints in everyday objects, cold residues in family archives, and the collective violence persisting between devotion and threat. Far from nostalgia, these works use history as a necessary language to navigate uncertainty and maintain a visceral sense of survival when the future cannot be clearly envisioned. #Swab2026 #SwabBarcelonaArtFair #PolarTropic
