“I was in the middle of shifting homes when this entire sh*t show went down” A Delhi housing search turned into a viral storm after an illustrator was secretly filmed at a protest using Meta’s AI glasses. In an interview with @article14live, they discuss personal trauma—and the reshaping of surveillance, public spaces & civil liberties. Story by Karen Rebeto. Meta has created an ecosystem that incentivises creators monetarily in exchange of generating content that has potential to go viral. Meta’s latest addition to this ecosystem are its pervert glasses that easily allow to record people without their knowledge and consent. At the cost of an individual’s safety and rights, Meta as well as the creator profits. To make it worse, queer, trans people are left with no avenues to seek timely justice when a fascist, anti-trans state strips away your trans identity, and associated legal protections. We stand in solidarity with Shabnam (@weird.back) who was forced to endure criminal harassment at a massive scale. We draw inspiration from her voice of clear conviction, strength and reason. #editsfilmfestival #onlinesafety #metaglasses #digitalrights #metaindia

Welcome to Instagram, @weird.back! Thank you for gracing us all with that heartfelt response, and I can only imagine how hard it must've been to see decades of privacy torn into. But to reclaim power like you did, and how, tells us that weaker minds would never break the courage of the worthy. You are worthy and so much more. I hope and pray the internet is kinder to you now and all your apprehensions about it are overwhelmed by love and joy it brings to you hereafter! ❤️ To everyone else, let's not talk the content creators and content "generators" for a minute. We call out what's wrong with them plenty. Let's talk about the people who laugh. People who like such content. People who are the market for it all to go viral. They're the problem too. They don't get publicly called out but they exist amongst us, with that very mentality. Pranit and Biryani generated that content for a mass audience that clapped and rolled over much. So here's my little whatever to you, notice what your people like, what they laugh at, what they appreciate. And not for a second be fooled by their performative existence when you've realized what's beneath their mask. Don't let it stay on. I wouldn't either. Let them know. . . . . . .
