I will be brief

I just got to play two characters, one that dedicates her life to giving encouragement, wisdom, and love to those around her, and another that literally dies because her love is too strong.
I love playing characters that I love. The friar was for me and hopefully to others a symbol of love for everything and everyone God put on this Earth. Of seeing the beauty and a chance for growth in a place that seems to be crumbling. She’s an example of doing what we can to protect and support, but her story also goes to show that one ally, one support, is not enough. And that a world full of hate breaks everyone.
I got to play characters all about love in a show all about love with creatives I love. I have a sick job.

From start to finish this show was a beast!! Bringing the Nurse to life was so rewarding in so many ways! She quickly became my first for many things in theatre and for that I’ll forever be thankful for this opportunity and privilege of getting to bring to life such special people!!!

A’More “Ricky” Branch is a Senior BFA Theatre Performance Major ♥️🌹 AND our Juliet!

“What I hope audiences take away from this production is that queer joy deserves to be embraced freely, wherever and by whomever, while also recognizing the reality that many queer people, trans people, and people of color are forced to hide or change parts of themselves just to feel safe and accepted.

As a Black artist and a Black woman playing Juliet, a historically known white character, this experience has deeply impacted my artistic journey.

I now know that I am fully capable of stepping onto a stage, speaking words from a role historically written and imagined through a white lens, and still being my full, authentic, beautiful Black self.

I haven’t changed the way I speak, joke, or express myself. I want all audience members to see this show and know they are capable of being all of who they are, regardless of the limits other people try to place on them.

The art that my cast members and I are creating shows that we, the people, have the power to create our own stories.”
