I just want to take a moment to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for celebrating my birthday with me. Whether you were there in person, sent a message, gave a call, or simply kept me in your thoughts… your love and kindness truly made my day unforgettable.

And to my friends and loved ones, I feel incredibly blessed to have such amazing people in my life. You all helped make this birthday not just special, but genuinely meaningful.

Here’s to love, laughter, and memories I’ll cherish forever.

SELECTOR SPECIFICITY

Specificity is an algorithm that calculates the weight that is applied to a given CSS declaration.

Specificity is the algorithm used by browsers to determine the CSS declaration that is the most relevant to an element, which in turn, determines the property value to apply to the element.

In CSS, More than one rule can target a given element which can cause conflicting styles.

When multiple rules target the same element, the browser will apply the rule that is more specific.

We have 3 types of selectors we use for our elements and they are as follows in precedence of specificity;

ID SELECTORS
For IDs, you can’t have 2 elements with the same ID. So it is considered first and is more specific.

CLASS SELECTORS
Class and attribute selectors are less specific since we can have multiple elements with the same class or attributes.

ELEMENT SELECTORS
Then the Element Selector since we can have different elements of a given type.

Notes:
When you 2 selectors with equal specificity, it will apply the last rule.

e.g.
#items {
color:red;
}

#items {
color:blue;
}

When you hover your mouse over a selector, you’ll see its weight or specificity.

Below are Images of how they appear when you hover.
