Jackson Melnick - Trouble (2021) dir. @bellamybrewster dp @weplusi "Ten thousand loves, ten thousand treasures, ten thousand lives gone like the weather." Jackson Melick's 'Trouble' is a film, highlighting depression and rising suicides within the agricultural community. Throughout the film, Jackson portrays the somberness of the record as he goes through the process of laying to rest a farmer who has passed away. As he shovels the last bit of dirt onto the "farmer," we see Jackson Melnick, himself in the grave. Before The End ~ A short romantic narrative directed by our talented friend @bram.vandermark. When he first sent us a rough cut, the story had no dialogue, no sound…just beautiful camera work and a unique story of two dancers in New York City finding their way back to one another. After a few calls, brainstorming 70s era cinema and sharing our favorite jazz albums, we began to score and add foley to the story. Our musical inspiration was a song by Bill Evans, “Peace Piece.” It had a slow cadence and simplicity that seemed to fit the tempo of the film. Using an old Steinway piano, we wrote our own piano cadence and began to build the score… ~ We’ll be sharing more on how we created the music and natural sound…but for now, swipe to see the trailer and a few vignettes of the score 👉 Director / @bram.vandermark Producer / @sachanoelle DP / @weplusi Score, Foley, Mix / @cleod9music . . . . . #cinematic #blackandwhite #shortfilm #narrative #originalscore #filmmakers #composer #soundtrack #soundmixing #foleyartist #artistic #dance #cleod9

My first narrative short film "Before the End" is now live on Vimeo. Enjoy this little teaser, but please view the full film there! - 18 months ago I had wine with an older couple in my building. They had been asking me for weeks and weeks to come have a glass and hear old stories about the neighborhood. I was so excited to do so, but it just became one of those things I had shelved in the back of my to-do's. Eventually, after running into them in my lobby again, I decide, "Tonight is the night." I had one of the best nights I've ever had in NYC. Now in their late 60s, they told me story after story of their early NYC days in the 1970s. They met at a ballet audition, fell in love, and performed a street act together in Greenwich Village. Their adventures spanned decades, but I was especially moved by the story of how they met. I was so struck by this, I left and could not stop thinking about it. After failing to convince them to let me shoot a doc piece about them, I decided instead to make a scripted short inspired loosely by this story. We shot in one day, in my own apartment. After a loooooong time sitting on a hard drive, I found a few tweaks to the edit and felt I had a little story. Ian McLeod at @cleod9music stepped in to create the score with me, and as soon as I heard his piano, I knew we had a film. I am so proud to share this today, and am proud of the new exploration and growth it has been for me! It was the dictionary definition of a passion project, and my generous crew donated a lot to bring this to life. Thank you to each one of you! - Director: Bram VanderMark Producer: Sacha Noelle @sachanoelle Starring: Godfrey Rayner as Gerry, Josephine Pizzino @josephinepizzino as Ruby, Eli Perdew @eliperdew as Young Gerry, and Kristalyn Gill @kristalyngill as Young Ruby DP: Wei Han @weplusi 1st AC: Matt Iacono @mattiaconodp 2nd AC: Kaya Tone @kaya.tone Production Design: Pili Weeber @piliweeber PA / BTS Photographer: Giselle Keena @gisellekeena Composer: Ian McLeod @cleod9music Sound Design: Scotty Beam @xmscottybeam @cleod9music Color: Jacob McKee @jalob @forager.tv Title Design: Emma Yergat Special thanks to @contrastfilms Shot on @kodak_shootfilm
