We closed out Hotter Than July 2026 exactly the way we should have: on a rooftop, under the Detroit sun, surrounded by beautiful people who clearly did not come to play about their outfits. ☀️🏙️ Sundaze: The Black Pride Appreciation Party brought the weekend to a smooth and joyful finish with good drinks, gorgeous views, and music from DJ @M00n_pi_ keeping the energy just right. Thank you to @werCloseFrenz for hosting such a fly farewell celebration—and to everyone who stopped to talk with @joeblack04 and share a little of their Hotter Than July experience with LGBT Detroit Live. Hotter Than July 2026 may be over, but the memories, the footage, and several rooftop fashion statements will live on forever. Rest up, hydrate, and start planning the outfit now. We hope to celebrate with you again in 2027. 🌈🖤 #HotterThanJuly #BlackPride #LGBTDetroit #DetroitEvents #CloseFrenz

John "Jammin" Collins, legendary DJ, producer, and Detroit techno pioneer, has passed from this physical plane, but the essence and spirit of his music will live on forever. The news of John's passing sent shockwaves throughout Detroit and the global music community. As a DJ, producer, educator, founder of the Detroit Regional Music Conference, contributor to @undergroundresistance313 Resistance and Submerge, and steward of Exhibit 3000: Detroit Techno Museum, John helped shape Detroit techno into a global movement while preserving the city's musical legacy. Just last month during LGBT Pride Month, we had the opportunity to reconnect with John through Detroit Sound Conservancy during the One Night Only event at Spot Lite, honoring the legacy of Ken Collier and Club Heaven. We were honored to welcome him to A Place Called Heaven, a panel discussion hosted at @thelovebuilding as part of the Love @ Nite series. Alongside @werclosefrenz, @LesbianSocialDetroit, @LGBTDetroit, and the Heaven In Detroit team, we reflected on protecting our sacred spaces and honoring the history of Hotter Than July, Detroit's longest-running Black LGBT+ Pride celebration. We were blessed to have John in the space with us during this discussion and to thank him in person for everything he gave to Detroit's music scene. Only weeks later, we lost Spot Lite. Now, on the final day of this year's Hotter Than July weekend, we've also lost one of the pioneers who helped create the soundtrack for those very spaces. Even as John transitions from this physical realm, we know his spirit lives on through his music. It continues to inspire our mission to honor his impact—and the legacy of so many Detroit music pioneers—through Heaven In Detroit: A Sanctuary of Sound. Rest in Heaven, John "Jammin" Collins. What happens when the spaces that shaped us begin to disappear? Across the country, Black queer bars, clubs, and gathering spaces have closed their doors, leaving many communities wondering where connection, culture, and belonging will live next. For generations, these spaces offered more than nightlife. They served as meeting places, creative incubators, sanctuaries, and homes away from home. They were where friendships formed, movements took shape, and community found itself. At Love@Nite: A Place Called Heaven, we’re bringing together DJ Tone, Chelcea of Lesbian Social, and Dash/DeJuan of Close Frenz for a conversation about the past, present, and future of Black queer gathering in Detroit. Together, we’ll explore how community is evolving, what today’s organizers are building in place of traditional institutions, and what it will take to create sustainable spaces for future generations. Join us for an evening of conversation, music, memory, and community featuring performances by Perry Columbus, music from DJ Tone, a screening of the Heaven in Detroit trailer, and reflections from community leaders helping shape what comes next. Before The Woodward closed its doors, DJ Tone helped soundtrack one of Detroit’s most beloved Black queer gathering spaces. This Thursday, we’re honored to welcome him to Love@Nite: A Place Called Heaven for an evening of music, memory, and conversation. As beloved queer spaces continue to disappear across the country, we’re asking an important question: What comes next? How do we create places of belonging, joy, and connection that can sustain themselves for generations to come? Join us this Thursday, June 11, from 6–10 PM for LOVE@Nite: A Place Called Heaven. As we honor Detroit’s Black queer legacy, we’re excited to welcome an artist whose work lives at the intersection of memory, healing, and liberation. 📸 - @dredotty Click the link in bio to RSVP! #LoveAtNite #DetroitEvents #LiveMusic
