We warmly invite you to the next WERKTALK on Wednesday, February 25, 6:00 pm with:

TATIANA ECHEVERRI FERNANDEZ

The conversation will take place in the artist’s studio. The address is: Tromsöer Straße 6, 13359 Berlin, 3rd floor, U9/U8 Osloer Straße.

We look forward to the conversation.

In this video, the artist offers a short insight into one of her recent works Technologies of Tenderness.

Technologies of Tenderness, 2026
Oysters, tin, cable

Drawing on Judith Butler’s idea of identity as performative and unstable, the work treats identity not as essence but as repetition — acts that can shift, falter, or transform. The oyster, capable of changing sex throughout its life, materializes this instability. It performs identity as an adaptive process rather than a fixed condition, unsettling the binary systems through which power seeks to organize bodies. In this sense, the work approaches biology itself as a site of critique, where transformation becomes a quiet form of resistance.

Monika Jarecka @monika_jarecka
"In Forest. Pigments"

Monika Jarecka researches pigments that she can safely use in the forest without contaminating the habitat of countless creatures. The range of colors she uses in her painting practice, which has a dazzling spectrum in her urban studio, has been reduced to three shades in the natural environment. Using turmeric, beet powder and cornflower, she experiments in the forest with ephemeral pours on the leafy ground. She considers that the pigments could potentially have positive effects on the local ecosystem - especially on animals, insects and fungi. She raises questions about the relationship between man and nature, the importance of patience, long periods of time and a new responsibility.

Monika Jarecka (* 1975, Poznan, DE) develops site-specific projects that require special attention to local conditions. She creates works in cycles according to special, newly negotiated instructions as a framework for her artistic endeavours. Observation, notation and currently the search for new forms of expression that do not burden the environment characterise her work, which examines the relationship between reality and construction. The choice and application of colour are based on the events of the day. A canvas, a place in nature become a projection surface.
