Around 2 years ago at this time I made a decision that would ultimately impact the outcome for the rest of my life. I’ve met a lot of people throughout my life through school and sports, but nothing can compare to the night that I met Jesus Christ.

I grew up my whole life thinking that I was this great guy and that I had no reason to change. I constantly compared myself to others and thought that if I just did the right thing then I’d be a good person and live a good life. That was until one night it all came to me.

Everything that my identity and purpose was in was temporary. Baseball isn’t going to last forever, school isn’t going to last forever, relationships aren’t going to last forever. All of a sudden my purpose in this life got tested because I had no idea who or what I was living for. Then I came to the realization that there is only one thing in this life that is not temporary and not material. That one thing is Jesus Christ

2000 years ago, the God of the universe stepped down from his throne to put himself in our shoes. He lived in complete perfection, never slipping up even once. He was outcasted and hated by men. He was hated so much that they crucified him while never committing any crime, let alone any sin. Everyone thought that this was the end, until 3 days later he rose again, defeating death.

What I’ve learned over these past 2 years is that I’m not this great guy. I’m this broken sinner who constantly falls short of who God wants me to be. The cost of my sin is eternal separation from God, I truly deserve hell. But because of His incomprehensible grace and mercy, he took the cost of sin away from us. Through his blood, he gave us a way out of this sinful life that we live.

Jesus has radically changed my life for the better. Even though I constantly fall short each and every single day, I know that Jesus has paid the price of sins so I may be able to spend eternity in heaven with him. My purpose and identity have finally been fulfilled. I am no longer Gage the baseball player, or Gage the student, or Gage the good person. I am now Gage, the follower of Christ.
