Notes on film - September 2026

I’ve loved shooting with urban textures - and in black and white (swipe to see). The creative limitations pushed me not to be drawn to colour (as I very much am), and focus instead on light and composition alone. One of my best rolls this year tbh

@openbookfest really fills the bookshelf, mind and soul in a different way.

Thank you for having us back and letting us feed you. It is a privilege.

Obviously have not one photo of us during set up, service or festival but the take aways are plentiful.

S/O to what’s left of this delicious marmalade cake from @amavaoluntu 🧡

A bday wrkwknd at the Nirox innovation hub in the Cradle of Human kind.

Here are some snaps from an illustration SPRINT, which was part of a global initiative with 9 incredible illustrators for the RSA leg!

Topic Brief: A “Reimagining Democracy” poster. A hot topic in the times of the Tyrannyssaurus Rex!

The T&Cs of the brief specified that it had to be original work without “AI vibes.” (I always get my hands involved in the process, thank the Lord.)
Verdict? This wasn’t an easy concept to unpack, coming from a relatively young democracy and state that still faces many issues but has also made meaningful gains. After some incredible discussions with our facilitators and fellow artists, we were pushed in the right direction and had a good go at it!

@chuleloveactivist a love activist, filmmaker, and artist whose work focuses on Ubuntu as an African healing modality, says: “I am because of all that is. Pure separation is an illusion that reinforces divides in the world. When I heal, that healing becomes available to the sacred force field that surrounds me.”
Lwando Xaso , a constitutional lawyer, author, activist, public speaker, and dear family friend, says: “An interim constitution had to be [negotiated] by the old National Party ruling party and the liberation movement/ANC. It was to be created for South Africa’s first democratic elections. The constitution needed to be drafted with the people, for the people. To date, South Africa has had the biggest public participation process for constitution making in the world. We were constituting ourselves in a transitional government, aligning the country with the human rights principles we all believe in.”
I embraced the challenge of a SPRINT and employed my hand-drawn methods, a must and then turned to my digital methods to finalise the piece. I pushed through and, in the end, created a lovely poster for the good people of the world
Join us at our exhibition at the Nirox Sculpture Park - 19 Sep 2026 in partnership with Fine Acts /OwON and the Yvonne Mokgoro Foundation.

Thanks @Apollo for the snap @muusonda @hustwilson @prsdnthoney @ithateng @wes_leal feat slides.
