A beautiful day for Strides for Melanoma, walking in support of @melanomacanada and honouring my Dad, who passed away in September 2024.

I was joined by my Mom, my daughter, and amazing friends (and Penny the pup) who walked 5k with us at Mount Pleasant Cemetary.

Of course, we all wore sunscreen (thanks to @larocheposay), hats, and sunglasses to protect ourselves from the sun.

Thank you to everyone who donated to the cause-we ended up raising over $2000! And thanks to Melanoma Canada for sending over our signs, the sunscreen shot glass (you need more than you think!) and all of our gifts.

My goal is to increase awareness of this horrible cancer and let people know it can be devastating-but also prevented.

For more info, check out @melanomacanada, check your skin and stay protected.

No one will ever be in your corner like your Mom.

There is no one that will love you like your Mom.

Your Mom will always listen. Always support you. Your Mom is your biggest cheerleader in life.

I feel so lucky to have my Mom.

Even though she lives three hours away, I know she would be here in a heartbeat if I need her.

*the best gift I ever gave her (and to be honest, gave myself) was a @mirvishproductions subscription. We go to all the shows and it gives us a reason to get together almost every month. Not sponsored, promise. But it explains all the pictures at the theatre. 😆

Happy Mother’s Day.
Sending all the love your way! ❤️

Award Winning Orange Loaf

My Mom enters an orange loaf in the Dunchurch fair every year. One year, she was the only entry and still placed second (WHAT?? Come on Dunchurch!!)

I made a couple of tweaks (don’t tell) but I’m hoping this will take the blue ribbon this summer!

Ingredients:
1/3 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar + 1 tbsp
Zest from 1 orange
1 egg
1/3 cup orange juice + 2 tbsp
2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk

Glaze:
1 tbsp orange juice
1 cup icing sugar

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°

Zest and juice one orange. Add orange zest to 3/4 cup of sugar and blend with your fingers.

To a mixing bowl, add butter, sugar (with zest), and cream together.

Add egg and blend again.

Add orange juice, mix. Add vanilla, mix.

Add flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.

Last, add the milk and mix until everything is well combined.

Pour into a prepared loaf pan and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Loaf is done when it’s nicely brown and springs back when touched.

Meanwhile, heat up 2 tablespoons of orange juice and dissolve 1 tablespoon of sugar in it. Set aside.

When the loaf comes out of the oven, poke all over with a toothpick. And pour orange juice mixture over top. Let sit for 10 minutes and then remove from loaf pan.

Make glaze and drizzle on top of the loaf.

Enjoy!
