BFE Race Recap
Our new (to us) Mav R showed up a few weeks before the race. Leading up to Moab we spent a lot of time chasing brake issues—bleeding them over and over just to have them go soft again after sitting. We got them “good enough” and decided to go for it.
Headed out to Moab and spent a few days on the trails in Jeeps before getting into race mode.
Monday was prerunning in the X3 while the guys kept bleeding the brakes. Then Ultra 4 moved the schedule up a day for our class, so everything picked up pretty quick.
Tuesday morning we got the brakes feeling “stiff enough” to qualify and had a clean run—ended up 1st in class and 2nd overall going into the race.
Started P2 that afternoon and quickly made the pass to physical 1st. We focused on staying fast and smooth and had a very clean race, getting through lap traffic efficiently. The car held together and we finished 5 minutes ahead on corrected time! It worked flawlessly with no issues all day, and the brakes did their job good enough when they needed to.
The Mav R rips. We weren’t sure how the DCT would do in the rocks, but it actually worked really well. It was a quick learning curve coming from a CVT, but I think it’s going to be a game changer for rocks and desert racing.
Thank you to everyone that came out to help, and thank you to our sponsors for all the support!

Good to be back. First race in the new Mav R and first Ultra 4 race in over a year! Started 2nd off the line, took the lead early, and held it to the end. Ended up with a 5-minute gap in front of 2nd! Appreciate everyone who helps make this possible. Recap with more pics soon.
