We recently brought LAUSD (@laschools) students from Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnets to Cedars-Sinai for a day inside a working hospital. There, what started as “maybe someday” became “this is a real path for me.”

🏥They toured the hospital’s simulation lab.
🥼They networked with doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals.
🚑They learned to tie tourniquets.

This event is the heart of what our school partnerships are all about: creating opportunities for young people by bringing them alongside institutions like Cedars-Sinai, where their futures start to feel real. 🚀

A huge thank you 🙏🏼to BLOOM and NextGen Programs (@cs_nextgen_hp) for their partnership in making this experience possible for @westchestercomets students.

HIGHER LEARNING: We kicked off our first Sunday Workshop of the year with a full house! 🙌🏽 It was great reconnecting with returning students and welcoming new students to the group.

We announced our expanded services and upcoming Field Trips, and we shared our introductory critical thinking presentation, played fun games, and ate a delicious lunch 🌯

Hats off to the group of 9-12th graders for their engagement with the college-level lecture, especially during the Q&A portions! 🎓 The students were so focused and the classroom was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop!

Keep an eye out for our September Newsletter and see everyone next month!

That thermostat setting the temperature and idk what’s hotter, the run we on or Southern California🤷🏾‍♂️

@uofcalifornia x @buildingcollegesuccess night part 2.

This year, we brought UC Night to @westchestercomets High School, welcoming nearly 200 students and family members and representatives from all nine undergraduate UC campuses, along with additional college-access and financial-aid resources.

One of the things I appreciated most was seeing the event continue to evolve.

We listened to the feedback from Year 1 and created more time for students and families to actually engage with representatives during the college fair. We also expanded our reach, with students from schools and communities we’re continuing to build relationships with across LA county showing up and taking advantage of the opportunity.

For me, this work continues to come back to access.

Access to information.
Access to people.
Access to spaces students may not otherwise know how to navigate.

There are a lot of emails, logistics, conversations, partnerships, and moving pieces behind an event like this—but seeing students and families in the room makes it worthwhile.

Appreciative of our BCS team, every UC representative who showed up for our students, and especially Cheryl Blackshire and Ronald Whitmore from UC Riverside for continuing to partner with us to make UC Night possible.

On to the next one.
