11 years.

There are no words that could capture all that we’ve experienced, how much we’ve accomplished and most importantly, how much we have loved. I can’t wait to see what the next eleven years hold. 🤍

Almost 11 years together and you’re still the easiest person to celebrate.

Happy Birthday! 🖤
I love you, bug.

They say the first year of marriage is hard. I say it wasn’t.

We’ve spent a decade choosing each other. A decade of beating the odds. A decade of learning just about everything there is to learn about another person. We learned a lot about choosing to love.

I am grateful for this life with you, for your commitment, for the way you choose us every time, for how well and how truly you love me.

I am grateful for grace.

True love doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be true and I believe ours will stand the test of time.

Here’s to our first year down and a lifetime to go… 🤍

The Respect for Marriage Act passed yesterday, protecting both same-sex and interracial marriages. 🤍

“I wasn’t holding my breath and I'm not rejoicing –
not more than I rejoice every ordinary day
(which to be fair - is a lot).

Because I already knew!
I already knew that my love is holy and glorious and a sacrament not just to be protected but to be
lauded, admired, savored, studied for clues and sung about from the mountaintop.
We are the easiest fact. A sure thing. Observable, provable, repeatable, even.

The courtroom is the only room where queer love struggles for equality.
In every other room straight couples watch us grabbing for each others’ hands.
Wondering if one day, their love might be equal
to ours.

So it’s not my big day.
Nothing was decided about me, here in this room.
Today all that was revealed is the character of some lawmakers in that room.

I’m happy for them. They seem to be capable of knowing obvious things!
I wish them love like mine.

But I don’t know anything today I haven’t known
in my bones, in my home, in my bed, in my kitchen,
forever.

I wasn’t holding my breath.
I breathe deep and free and easy,
with her.
We knew. We know.
You do, too.”
