It is time for me to socially mediate about the wonderful tour we wrapped opening for @officialsarahmclachlan and her amazing band and crew last month.

Every single person, so kind, so generous, so patient, and so talented! What a feat to assemble a team like that!

What a joy too to now have @mrbilliams, professional cat herder and chaos wrangler, steering our ship.

Peas and loaf!

This crew went out of their way to make me feel welcome on the @officialsarahmclachlan Better Broken US tour. Thank you to everyone involved for the unforgettable experience ❤️

This is @whereisjarett . Maybe you know him because he’s been in my corner for a while. He’s my guitar tech and nothing I do in this world would be possible without his guidance, at least on Sarah tours.

He does all the things you think he does:

Adjust the truss rod in my Strat; raise the bridge on the SG; widen the string placements on the Falcon; help me program my switching system; advise me on overdrive pedals and gain structure; tune tune tune tune.

And this is a massive job. I have 5 (6?7?) electric guitars on this run and because of tunings, tones and capos, I almost never use the same guitar consecutively. Jarett makes sure I’m always using what I need.

What you don’t imagine though, is that when I crush a sweet solo or my amp feedback is especially satisfying, I don’t look to Sarah or Melissa or the front row of fans to flaunt the majesty of the moment (I probably should), but to Jarett: “Look, J, NO HANDS!”

A guitar tech—when they’re in fine form—is a Jedi, a Sherpa, a priest, a shrink, a coach, a cheerleader, a confident, a sorcerer and a fluffer. They know better than anyone how we feel when we’re relaxed and in the zone, or when we’re neurotic and insecure. I might reveal my fragility to Sarah or the band but Jarett knows whether I admit it or not.

This tour is a wrap and as we disperse like pellets from a shotgun, heading off to new gigs or to seek refuge beneath the shade of Maple trees in quiet backyards, I marvel at these unsung heroes. They stalk the shadows behind the show, cloaked in mystery and black cargo shorts. And they are our lifelines.

Three cheers for Jarett.

Not sure how many non-show day meals we’ve shared over the past 20 years, but I’m always looking forward to the next one, bud!
I always appreciate your company and your insights. See you at load in.

9 weeks all across the us with some wonderful humans is coming to a close this evening. With 40 shows played I wanted to say thank you to everyone involved for allowing me to be a part of your lives. It’s never goodbye just see ya later! Heading home to see my best boy @lemmy_the_sup_pup and my lovely better half @tashar222 for a month before disappearing into the void of rock n roll yet again. A bit late in posting this little carousel. The @officialsarahmclachlan Fumbling Towards Ecstasy 30th Anniversary Canadian Tour is officially in the books as of a few days ago marking the end of something we started 18 months ago and an experience I’ll never forget. Traveling across my home country, playing great music with Sarah and this killer band in hockey arenas, watching meaningful October baseball on days off and seeing friends I haven’t seen for many years, all exceeded my expectations. Special shout out to @tinyhabitsofficial who joined us for the Canada gigs.

Just finished mixing 33 shows with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. What a blast it was to work with these guys, the crew and to mix the SatchVai band on the “Surfing with the Hydra” European tour.
