When Brad Gerlach @waveki first ordered boards off me back in 2002 I was in a low spot in my life, living out of my car, and on friends couches, just 7 years after graduating college with a double major. He reached out to me after seeing the surfing of @philgoodrichart @droodles1252 and @whereswalla on my boards. The first 4-6 boards I made for Brad were awful and did not work ! But that’s when I learned early on Brad was a good human and would give the shirt off his back to anyone. He gave me another chance, and also became a very supportive friend. Adversity has always been like spinach to Popeye for me. The next round of boards worked great for him and from there, so many doors opened for me that I will be forever grateful to Brad for, including first introducing me to @gerglong …………. 20+ years of friendship ,20 + years of fun adventures and laughs, and 20+ years of having one of the best test pilots in the world helping evolve my shaping and business to where it’s at today. My first US open, that was fun. The Challenger series is everything I wanted, learning at this level from people I look up to and my peers. We go way back…to 6th grade and even some before. Friendships like these should be sustained and never taken for granted. It’s always worth the drive, always worth the effort, even just once a year. Pismo perfection incoming 🌊🙌 Stop #2 of the Jersey Mike’s West Coast Prime Series is ON at beautiful Pismo Beach, hosted by our friends at @vesperaresort 🤝 The @brilloproductions crew dialed in another insane comp site, the @liveheats draws are set, judges and beach marshal are locked, and the jerseys are ready for a BIG weekend of surfing by the West Coast’s top under 18 talents. Congratulations to ZION WALLA (@zionwalla ) for being named Surfer of the Week for the week of October 12th. The 14-year-old from San Clemente, better known as “Zi” got straight to business in his first heat of the Southwest Huntington Beach Open ripping an excellent 8.83 ride and then followed it up sticking a lofty slob air. The judges deemed the aerial the perfect score of a 10. The energy continued for Zi as he was dialed in to the fun wedgy Southside peaks winning all of his heats before nailing his first W of the season. The victory was sealed in convincing fashion on two big scores of 8.67 and 8.50. Zi’s punt could go down as the wave of the season. It definitely set the bar! 🚀📈 Zion is in the 8th grade attending Cabrillo Point Academy and his favorite subject is Science. He is sponsored by Rip Curl, Lost Surfboards, FCS, Jacks Surfboards, Murf, Range Essentials, Fu Wax and Riffe International. Zi names the Gudauskas Brothers (@patrickgud @danedamus @tannergud ), his Dad and Mom and his sister @edenwalla_ as his local heroes. He is coached by his Dad and sister as well. When Zi isn’t surfing, you might find him free diving, playing football or enjoying a game of chess.
