Transatlantic Voices has come to its (porous) ending for this year. The project started as a satellite initiative, part of our Avonden programming at Perdu, later mutating into a workshop series with participants’ readings.

This series seeks resonance with Latin American feminist poetic traditions, through poetry writing rooted in intuition, reflection, and multilingual experiments. Poets read during the classes performed this year at Perdu as Maricela Guerrero and Cecilia Pavón, creating an imaginative and migratory parenthesis of poetic contagiousness across the Atlantic.

Thank you @outline.platform for hosting the fall sessions and @stichtingperdu for our readings and events. The visual landscape and drawings were created by @azul.demonte! Gracias to all the poets who read @maria.paris.b, @jennivora, @papelcontante , Lisa, @bernke.begint, @nanne.timmer , Radna & @microcentropoesia, to the participants who joined our classes, and those who took part in the events and readings :>

The series continues in 2026! Besos transatlánticos (💋)

Hope to see you January 11 at 12:44, 1:11 or 1:31 in LAB111!
A selection of the uniforms will be on show too!
I will be present and this time not in the middle of a performance like during Pre-Remains the performance. So if we are lucky we can find ourselves in a nice conversation!
If you need more information, please visit my website please. Or keep on reading please.

The four horses in the performance are Haflinger horses, a horse breed with its origin in former Ostria-Hungary, the place that hosted a starting point of the Great War.
While sewing the thick, stiff, and virtually indestructible blankets, her sewing machine itself produces the sound of a Madsen M1902, the world’s first true light machine gun produced in quantity, used extensively during the Great War.

If you are wondering about the starting point for this work. One was a weird vision in a tea bar in China -at that point the work just had two horses-. The second, third or fourth were those white boots I found in an army dump store. From that moment on I only had to make all the uniforms, find four horses and the 12 other performers…

This cute Timelapse is not part of the screening btw…

Pre-Remains is a blood-curdling performance featuring four live horses and twelve live human animals. Pre-Remains shows the aesthetics of a slow struggle, languid fear, and muted aggression.
Specially for the exhibition WARÚM DARÚM WARÚM DARÚM, a conversation piece, in Loods6, at the request of Sanne Danz and Carolien Scholtes, Coppens developed a new version of the 2009 performance. This time, not in an industrial setting, but in an environment that evokes the trenches of yesteryear.

The performance Pre-Remains is situated between a sacrifice and an homage where present, past and future intermingle. The Great War’s uniforms formed the fundament for the costumes. The uniforms for the performance have been assembled from the uniforms of the opposing parties at war.

Coppens used cream-colored woolen army blankets from the Royal Dutch Navy for the uniforms. She has largely removed the red stripes from these blankets. By largely removing the original red from the blankets, the blankets are stripped of color: the distinction between good and bad is blurred. The choice was made to allow the memory of the red stripes to persist in small accents, making it clear what has been removed. Without these reference points, there is no memory of the red and the history of the blankets.

Almost all the seams in the uniforms have been determined by it’s past: the size of the blankets and the location of the red stripes.
